Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install System Tool 2011, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as System Tool 2011, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as System Tool 2011?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.

    • December 16th, 2010 at 11:30 | #2

ahmed: Do not forget to scan. Serial disables the popups, it will not remove the trojans or security holes.

Ok so I’ve stopped the pop ups on my bf’s pc with one of the serial numbers listed here, downloaded and scanned with spyware doctor but it hasn’t found anything. Does this mean that the pc is sorted? I’m not exactly hot on computers and he is even less so I want to be sure that I get this right

    • December 20th, 2010 at 01:23 | #4

Sarah: Update SD, and scan with Malwarebytes too. The virus mutates often, and if one tool does not find anything after serial numbers, it does not mean spyware is gone.

    • December 22nd, 2010 at 09:49 | #7

Ruby: First enter the code. if this won’t help, start task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and stop processes that look like this dsgsd32234, or reboot into safe mode with networking

Latoya: Update and scan again. Also, try scanning with Hitman Pro. There should be something, but if it is freshly updated, anti-malware tools might have problems on finding. Try couple others.

Whatever you do do not fall for the scam and buy the system tool as they are trying get your card number. I had it and I was completely locked up. I called Norton and they got in and cleaned my computer of it via Norton Live. It took several attempts before they could get in because this malware prevents you from downloading virtually anything. Need less to say once Norton got rid of this thing for me I immediately installed Norton Utilities plus their 2011 Internet Security Suite Good Luck

Hi, I would like to share how I got rid of system tool. After running various scans, spyware doc, malwarebytes, kaspersky, etc. in safe mode, I ran a search for all recently modified .exe files (from around the time the system tool showed up). System tool shows up as an .exe file with a string of about 8-12 random numbers and letters. For example, mine was aEeLbLd15400.exe. I believe it is a different number/letter combo for each case. This search can be done in safe mode. Once the .exe is located, open the containing folder and delete it, and remove from recycle bin. Then conduct another search using all or part of the number/letter combo and get rid of all those files. Once I did this, my reboot into normal mode was successful. I ran ccleaner to fix the registry and my PC is O.K. now. Hope this helps!

my friends computer just go infected with system tool scam, the desktop background changed and said that his computer has spyware…. he rebooted the computer and the background changed back to normal and he could open programs that he couldnt open before, is it completely safe now or is the computer still infected?

    • February 20th, 2011 at 01:49 | #21

Jared: Almost certainly your friend still infected. Malware does not go away, but might be dormant.

    February 20th, 2011 at 04:20 | #22

    @admin
but after my friend rebooted his cpu, he scanned the computer with Avira Antivirus software, and no spyware was found.

    • February 20th, 2011 at 15:47 | #23

Jared: No anti-virus, anti-malware tool is 100%, though they claim so. The reason is following: Malware and trojans change daily, and are released in thousands. Some of them land in antivirus maker honeypots, some land much later. So even for common malware types, it is better to scan with several tools if there is a doubt that it was not removed fully.

    Hi

This system tool virus got into my pc last friday night 25/02/2011 while a firned who was drunk was using the pc looking at what appeared to be a benign site apparently. I could not reboot in safe mode as the keyboard would not allow the arrow cursors to operate.

Then all of a suddent when i started the pc on wendesday evening 02/03/2011 the system tool had vanished … I was then able to download my free version of bt net protect from my broadband provider and do a scan but it detected no spyware or malware …

so is syetm tool embedded and waiting to reappear? Is bt net protect using McAfee as useless and just slowing down my pc performace which is what my friend and pc builder claims?

am i using what is effectively a still-infected pc?

is system tool a device contrived to elicit info from millions of pc users around the world to undermine democracy in the free world itself?

s that have crossed my mind in the past few days and I am sober and do not use drugs

    :-)

please advise / reassure as apt

    Cheers!

    • March 4th, 2011 at 10:58 | #27

System Tool might disappear temporally, however it is unlikely that trojans causing infection disappeared as well. The simplest test is scanning PC with several anti-malware programs, as any single one might miss something.

It associates .exe files with itself in the registry. But it does not associate the old DOS .COM fies, haha.

Restart computer with “Safe mode with command prompt” and then type in regedit and you can dissosicate the .exe files, then go to i believe it is “cd C:\documents and settings\username\local settings\application data” and type in “dir /ah” you will see 3 exe files random character name. You can open these files with old DOS program EDIT.COM and just manually clear them. When you save them, they will be visible with “dir” and can now be deleted with “DEL” command.

Restart your computer and you will notice that attempting to execute any exe will come with a “Open with…” dialog. Make a batch file on your desktop containing: %1 then in the open with dialog press browse and choose that batch file and now you can run exe files.

This worked for me and I hope you look into this admin.
