How to remove Ext Security Center?

February 24th, 2009

What is Ext Security Center?

Ext Security Center is a new rogue computer security program – a fake all-in-one security application, which uses intimidation and disinformation to sell it’s “full version” to the infected user. This parasite uses trojans, such as Zlob and Vundo, to enter the system. This is done by disguising the trojans to appear as video codecs, which are then downloaded by unsuspecting users.

Once inside and active, Ext Security Center will flood the user with popups and fake system notifications, supposedly to inform him that his system is infected. This claim will also be supported by Ext Security Center’s fake system scans, which produce greatly exaggerated results. The point of this scheme is to trick the user into thinking that he is in need of an anti-spyware/anti-viral program, and that Ext Security Center is the best choice around.

Ext Security Center is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download or buy it and block it’s homepage using your HOSTS file.

Ext Security Center is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Ext Security Center can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Ext Security Center trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Ext Security Center offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Ext Security Center does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Ext Security Center, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Ext Security Center, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Ext Security Center, is nearly impossible to remove manually.
