How to remove XP-Guard 2.1?

August 20th, 2008

What is XP-Guard 2.1?

XP-Guard 2.1 is a new rogue anti-spyware program – a corrupt spyware remover, which employs backdoors, such as the infamous Zlob, to spread itself. This parasite uses various infimidations techniques to get the user to purchase it’s "licensed version", which is just as fake as the trial.

Once inside and active, XP-Guard 2.1 will flood the user with popups and fake system notifications, supposedly to inform him of an infection or multiple infections present on the system. While actual infections may be present on the system, XP-Guard 2.1 has no way of detecting or removing them and this disinformation is used only to create a reason for the user to purchase an anti-spyware program.

XP-Guard’s website, XP-Guard.com, is nothing out of the ordinary: there is no useful content, no contact details and no legitimate payment system. XP-Guard 2.1 is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download or buy it and block it’s homepage using your HOSTS file.
