SecuringCheckNow.casa Fake Scan - How to remove

Mac Heal Pro, basically a scam program, is being promoted by SecuringCheckNow.casa – a website that pretends to detect viruses on your Mac to scare you into downloading the program. Actually, the website presents the program as Mac Cleanup, and only if you install it, you find out what it really is.

SecuringCheckNow.casa is a scam site

To reiterate, SecuringCheckNow.casa is a site that is made to look like Apple support but has nothing to do with the real company Apple; it’s a creation of some online fraudsters who profit from selling software that nobody wants. This website acts out the routine of finding viruses on your computer regardless of the real state of the machine.

Though Mac malware does exist, SecuringCheckNow.casa can’t find it, doesn’t look for it, and might itself be a result of an adware infection. If this site shows up in your browser, it should be ignored and dismissed:

Your Mac is infected with 3 viruses. Our security check found traces of 2 malware and 1 phishing/spyware.System damage: 28.1% – immediate removal required!

You’re threatened with permanent system damage, given a 5 minute countdown (nothing happens if you pass it), and presented a button “Scan Now”. Pressing this button takes you to another page where a “scan” is performed. The supposed system damage rises from 28.1% to 33.2%, which might be there to scare you into thinking that the damage is getting worse the longer you wait. Mac Cleanup is recommended to download, even though the real program being distributed is Mac Heal Pro.

This ridiculous script is followed by other malicious websites, like Apple.com-optimize-mac.live and Apple.com-mac-optimizer.icu. Even though these URLs have “Apple” in them, they are not related to the company and Apple themselves warn people to ignore such online virus alerts.

Harm caused by fake virus alerts

Websites like SecuringCheckNow.casa are dangerous and should be ignored. They’re created to make money for online fraudsters, and because scams like this have been going on for years, we can guess that they’ve been lucrative. Which, sadly, means that some people ended up falling for it and buying the subpar utility program.

Tech support scams – ones where you’re convinced that your computer is in danger, like when SecuringCheckNow.casa tells you that your “personal and banking information is at risk” – are still going strong and affect both young and old, and even people who believe that they’re good with computers. This report by Microsoft talks about how these scams cause not only financial losses, but also stress and lose a lot of time. So, when an alert like SecuringCheckNow.casa appears, ignore it – don’t even consider it. Your antivirus isn’t going to warn you on some random website or threated you that you’ll lose your files and your banking data.

How to get rid of SecuringCheckNow.casa redirects

The SecuringCheckNow.casa page shows up after doing one of a few things:

  • Going to an infected website and being forwarded to the fake scan site (often only happens the first time visiting the site in a while).
  • Clicking on pop-ups in your Mac UI. This probably means that you have some adware infection that needs to be taken care of.
  • The site opens on its own. This might also mean an infection.
  • Pop-up ads in your browser that lead to SecuringCheckNow.casa could be the fault of the websites that you go to, or a notification spammer like Replyalert.net.

You can use a good antivirus scanner like Combo Cleaner to weed out malicious files and apps. You can also block malicious websites using a security program and some ad-blocker. But it’s not always possible to avoid scam sites like SecuringCheckNow.casa, especially when they’re new. If you encounter one, close the tab (Cmd+W) – don’t engage with it.

If you installed Mac Heal Pro or some other fake utility, an antivirus tool would be able to remove it, after all, competent antivirus tools do detect it as a problem. You can also remove it manually, though the multitude of files these PCVARK programs drop in your system can be difficult to hunt down.
