Blpsearch.com Virus - How To Remove?

Blpsearch.com is a fake search engine developed by Aztec Media. An advertisement company, based in Cyprus. This company is responsible for many browser hijackers, however Blpsearch is integral part in many of them.

Typically, BlPsearch infects computers with other software. Lots of software try to make money by providing free version which is “bundled” with other programs that vary from semi-useful to even dangerous or having aggressive advertisements. A typical bundle might have one “useful” program, one new tab hijacker, one search hijacker, an adware and a fake system optimizer. While law requires that they would ask people to be installed on system, the most of them pre-selects these choices and people just skip these installation steps. After that, one of BLPsearch-driven new tab clones will install on Explorer, Chrome, Firefox or Safari and this or other search engine will hijack default search settings as well.

The hijackers rarely differ much. The new tab displays weather information and might display some advertising. Lots of these new tab hijackers can not be installed in legitimate ways at all. There are no public downloads for these scams, their websites do not provide any installation instructions. It is obvious that they know that no sane person will start using them on their own. Some of these parasites do not have uninstall instructions too, which is a sign of malicious programs.

BLPsearch.com has no search index on its own. So it has to use different search engines. However, each search you do on their hijackers is passed through its website and then passed to legitimate search engine. This is done for following reasons:

  1. Track your searches and thus interests. This might allow them showing you targeted advertisements in the future
  2. Making money from search engines that buy new users (yes, some search engines spend money so you would use them or they would die off). Both yahoo, Ask and serveral smaller sites have done that in the past.
  3. Increase their site popularity rank so they can either sell the page or marketing companies would hire them to show you even more advertisements. Alexa popularity rank for BLPSearches and their sister sites are on the rise.

Additionally, using a redirecting search engine is highly risky behavior. That is because you will never know which real search page would provide the results. They could change the search engine to malicious one at any time and it would be hard to track how you landed in such page. Thus I strongly recommend removing BLP Search or any new tab clone that uses it from PC and scanning it against more parasites.

To avoid Blpsearch.com virus, you should be more careful when downloading free programs from the Internet. Make sure you always follow installation steps of all new applications and never allow them to change your homepage or search engine, add any toolbars or install other programs that you are not familiar with. This way you will protect your system from getting a lot of unwanted programs that use bundling to be distributed.

If your browsers have already been affected, remove Blpsearch.com virus as soon as possible. Automatic removal is much easier and it will guarantee that all unwanted programs are fully eliminated. A good anti-malware program will also prevent your computer from similar attacks in future.
