Just got this POS virus today by visiting some message board about computers of all things and it launched without me ever clicking on anything. Last time I will use IE. Anyways thought people might like to know that it now prevents you from running programs like malware bytes, even if they are already installed on your computer! Instead it uses the icon of malware bytes and pretends that it is Malware bytes.

I used the serial # trick and that got the malware to calm down enough that I could load/update a fresh copy of MalwareBytes off a thumb drive. I had to use the command line to launch it, though.

The serial # alone was NOT enough on my PC … it was still having a fit loading/unloading Bad Things till MalwareBytes finished doing it’s thing.

… 3 hours later, looks all clean!

@Brogan: In the popup/warning dialog for the malware, there are buttons to buy the product, and one for “manual activation” (or something like that). The “Manual Activation” one is where you can enter the serial #.

Disable proxy server in your browser. This should be enough in safe mode with networking

Rae: You need either to kill processes and delete files or scan with decent Anti-malware program and delete what it finds. Preferably both.

After I got rid of it I still had to also change the settings in Firefox at Options- Advanced- Network- Settings- to Auto-detect the proxy. Who knows what other settings it changes.

I got this virus today and the Win 7 Internet Security keeps popping up in my laptop and failed to access the internet. Found this page and after reading the comments here, I typed the serial code accordingly at the Registration column and it immediately removed all the viruses. Woww!! Really thanks a lot to the person who comes up with this code. I can now access thee internet as usual.

Why can’t these people be tracked and prosecuted. The program wants you to pay it, presumedly via a credit card payment which would go to some account. The owner of that account is presumedly the create=or, or at least spreading, the virus. Shouldn’t be to hard for law enforcement to track this.
