SmarterPower is listed as a PUP (potentially unwanted program) and an adware. If you see a lot of pop-up or banner ads on your web browser, it can be a sign that SmartPower is installed on your system. It may enter your computer without you even being aware of it. Even though developers of this application promise that it will enhance your browsing experience by providing you with various coupons, deals and offers, this is not true. All those deals and coupons most of the time appear on e-commerce websites, such as Amazon or eBay and offers you to purchase some particular goods at a better price rate. However, you should not believe in it because all those ads are fake and SmartPower application is just looking to make money out of you. SmarterPower is an ad-supported system that displays ads from third parties. It is not a secret that a lot of cyber criminals, developers of malware and scammers use those kind of networks to promote their products or services. That’s why it is not recommended to click on those ads. If you do so, you will be immediately redirected to third parties websites that may be infected and cause harm to your operating system. Furthermore, SmartPower adware will collect your personal information, such as browsing history, IP address or even search queries and transfer it to the mentioned third parties. They adjust their ads according to the given information and make them more engaging and relevant to your browsing habits, so the chance that you will click on it rise. SmarterPower makes money by collecting sales leads and generating web traffic. Most of cyber security specialist advice to remove this application before it is too late.

This adware is distributed as most other applications of this style – bundled with free software. I.e. when you download and install something from the Internet for free, there is a chance that SmarterPower will be installed alongside. To avoid this happening, you should be very careful during the installation of such a software. Do not skip any steps and if possible, opt out for a custom or advanced install mode. This will allow you to see all available options. Read all terms and conditions and don’t allow any additional software that you are not aware of to be installed.
