Ads by LinkBucks - How to remove?

Linkbucks.com is an online social advertising platform. It provides the services for those who want to monetize their online content. This online advertising provider is legitimate, but this does not necessarily can be applied to its clients. On the whole, no one wants to be exposed to advertising content, especially, when its legitimacy can be questioned. Such providers of online advertising services were quite popular back in 2014. Though their popularity decreased, there can still arise issues related with such programs as Linkbucks.

About LinkBucks Adware

LinkBucks ad-supported software specializes in showing advertisements in the form of links. These links can be posted anywhere on the whole of the Internet. This means that the links, posted with the help of LinkBucks add-on, can appear on foreign websites and can be taken as the native ones by inexperienced users. When they are clicked on, they generate money, and this profit is shared between LinkBucks and the 3rd party advertisers. As the developers of the latter adware declare in their Privacy Policy, they do not control the content or links of their affiliates. Which leads to the assumption that any kind of advertising content, even the illegitimate one, can take advantage of this security gap. Another interesting point worth mentioning is that LinkBucks accepts adult-oriented advertising. There is no question that the latter kind of content is one of the most suspicious content, bearing the highest potential of being infected with malware and spreading these infections.

linkbucks-2-viruses

On the official website of LinkBucks you can find that they use JavaScript to display links on the web pages, and, additionally, Cookies are employed to track your browsing history, geolocation, etc. so that only the links, which allude to you personally, are to be displayed on your web browser. LinkBucks advertising software is compatible with the most widely used web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc. It is not aimed at the particular browser. So it does not matter what browser you use – LinkBucks plug-in can still make changes to it, if this extension has gotten installed on your computer’s system.

In addition to all this, there is another interesting thing about LinkBucks adware. It can be exploited to show pop-up advertisements, which redirect to dubious websites. And this kind of phenomenon is generally known as LinkBucks redirect issue. Normally, when the user places the mouse cursor on the link, the pop-up advertisement is displayed. This advertisement is, of course, the property of 3rd party advertisers and no one can guarantee its trustworthiness.

How has LinkBucks Adware Infected Your Computer?

If you are not an affiliate with LinkBucks, then, it is hardly possible that you have visited its official website. Actually, you can only sign up there and get the means with which you will be able to display advertisements for other Internet users. You most probably haven’t heard about this application before, since you started seeing strange links or redirecting pop-ups. The thing is that LinkBucks adware is added as an additional component to free software. So the most probable way how LinkBucks PUP (potentially unwanted application) has gotten installed on your PC is through such downloads performed in the Default mode. The trick is that in the Advanced or Custom mode all additional components are made public and they can be deselected.

The issue of LinkBucks can be solved by applying professional malware removal tools such as Reimage, Spyhunter or Malwarebytes. This adware can also be removed manually. The instructions on how to do that are provided below.

  1. Linkbucks is not a virus or browser hijack, it is an advertising system that webmasters use too make money off their links, it is on the site itself. Not on your computer or browser.

    • Harry McGuire : Linkbucks itself is pretty much harmless. The problem is with someone, who wrote virus for mis-using linkbucks. That parasite generated clicks through system and so hurt both the PC which PC was infected and the advertising system itself. At the moment we thing the problem is solved.

  2. I have installed spyhunter, and ran it. I deleted every threat it found. Spyhunter now gives me a clean bill of health, however I am still being redirected to linkbucks copy websites. Please help.

  3. I tried to use Mc Afee, SpyHunter and Hitman Pro and none of them removed Linkbucks from my Window 8. I don’t know what other proffessional spyware to use. I had the impression that I wasted money for nothing.

    • Does it happens on one site only or on multiple? Does all browsers are affected or only one? It can be implemented in various ways (Linkbucks redirects are symptoms only). It might be malicious extension, if so you will have to remove it manually. Try Adwcleaner too.

  4. THIS IS A BROWSER REDIRECTION INFECTION

No known Malware Protection/detection will help!

How it works:  You pick it up on a web site and it then infects your browser.

It rapidly spreads to your wifi hub and the many other items of your network infrastructure

Finding for the hidden/embedded infection files is near impossible

    REMOVAL

    Close Down WiFi

    Remove any RG45/CAT5 Connection

Delete Completely – all traces of: Firefox, Opera and Chrome

Reset Safari using Shift + Alt + Reset

    Re-Install/Reset Firefox, Opera and Chrome

POWER DOWN every item on your network

    Reboot Your Network

    Reconnect WiFi and test

    IFF it is normal 🙂

IFF NOT:  Reset & Reinstall your browser + remove and power down every item on your network

Rebuild and reboot form your first hub/router and then test.  You Should be clear !!

THEN connect one item at a time testing each one for infection

I DO NOT KNOW if it infects printers + scanners et al+++ but mine are OK

    • Sorry, Peter, but you are (partly )wrong.
There are couple DIFFERENT Linkbucks versions and you mix removal instructions for them.
      1. Version that infects routers (rare) – you will have to flash your home router (part of your instructions are related to this one, but it would not solve it – you HAVE to restore your router settings to factory ones).
      2. Versions in browser plugins – just disable plugins/userscripts, anti-malware tools are getting better at detecting them as well
      3. Versions that attach to browsers (IE, mostly) – anti-malware tools handle them pretty well.
      4. PROXY server (probably what happened for you) – tough to detect by anti-malware tools, but easy to remove manually by changing the proxy setting. It does not requires reinstall of browsers….
