What is CouponDropDown Virus?

CouponDropDown virus is a browser hijacker that is known to get installed to all of major Internet browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer. If you use more than one tool for navigating the web, it might be that this virus will alter only one of them. After it appears on the browser, it replaces your home page with coupondropdown.com. You might also notice that your bookmark list is supplemented with new websites you never seen before.

It becomes almost impossible to navigate the Internet once CouponDropDown virus has affected your computer because of constant redirections. By doing this cyber criminals ensure a bigger traffic to the sites they want to promote. Another very annoying feature is pop-up or in-text advertisements that interrupt your work every time Internet connection is turned on.  They might appear on any webpage, e.g. on your Twitter account or Facebook profile. Very often ads offer the user various coupons for acquiring different products, for example:

NEVER MISS ANOTHER COUPON OR SALE!
CouponDropDown will change the way you shop online.
Buy one Get one free home accessories
Free standard shipping on all bath and beauty purchases.
40 % OFF EXTRA, includes all items, even already on sale!

Those who tried to remove CouponDropDown virus found it difficult or almost impossible to do in an ordinary way. This is due to the reason that in many cases the toolbar will not have an uninstall wizard or the one that you might find will not work properly and will not restore all of the settings to the ones you had before.

It is recommended to use Hitman Pro or Spyhunter for CouponDropDown virus removal. This software will make all the necessary fixes automatically. To remove CouponDropDown virus manually you should do this from Control Panel. You should remove all unfamiliar add-ons and change your search provider settings. Do not forget to scan your computer using antimalware software because in some cases if a toolbar gets installed to a computer without a user’s interference, it might be that it was brought in by a malware.

If you still cannot get your system restored after running a scan, follow these instructions depending on your browser:

On IE:

  • Click arrow on the right of search box;
  • On IE8-9 choose Manage Search providers or on IE7 click change search defaults;
  • Remove adware from the list.

On Firefox :

  • In url field type “about:config” (you don’t need to use quotes)
  • Type “Keyword.url” in the search box. Right click it and reset it.
  • Type “browser.search.defaultengine” in the search box. Right click it and reset it.

On Google Chrome:

  • Click wench icon on browser toolbar;
  • Select Settings;
  • Select Basics ->Manage Search engines;
  • Remove adware from the list.

    I use Firefox and I have this virus. It does not show up in my extensions or in my add/remove programs control panel. From other websites, it said there would be certain downloads such as “Online HD TV” or other random names but those aren’t present on my computer. I have McAfee and when I run the scans it does not get rid of the virus. I followed the config instructions for Firefox but both were already default and couldn’t be reset. What should I do?
