Nvux.xyz Search Redirects - How to remove

Nvux.xyz is a new SearchGG browser hijacker. The “nvux.xyz” URL appears in your browser instead of your usual search engine. Though Nvux.xyz functions like a search engine, it lacks security, features, and it may have more ads than normal. A browser extension is responsible for Nvux.xyz being in your browser. That browser extension needs to be removed – that will stop Nvux.xyz from appearing when you search.

Nvux.xyz is not a good search site, in fact, it’s close to malware:

What does Nvux.xyz do?

Nvux.xyz redirects appear in your browser when you search the web. Generally, people have some popular search engine, such as Google.com, as their default. But Nvux.xyz appears despite that every time you search for something online.

Nvux.xyz is a custom Google Search engine, which means that Google’s technology powers it, but the people behind Nvux.xyz are ultimately in control of the results. They probably just created their own custom Google engine – everyone can do that for free. Nvux.xyz’s creators can make money from the ads shown in those search results. Nvux.xyz provides no useful features to justify showing ads, by the way. No filtering by date, language, or even type of results. On top of that, Nvux.xyz is not secure – it doesn’t encrypt its traffic, neglecting the security of its users. Nvux.xyz is just a very low-quality search engine.

An ad-supported search engine like Nvux.xyz can make a modest amount of money. With more users, that money grows significantly. And though Nvux.xyz is relatively small, it’s actually part of a family of hijackers called SearchGG: it includes Cr447.xyz, Losx.xyz, Searchmo.xyz, and many others. Some of these sites get millions of visits every month. Together, these sites make up quite a big group that affects a lot of victims.

How do people download search redirects?

Nvux.xyz is installed by a QxSearch hijacker. These are browser extensions like APP, CoolApp, ImSearch, and Web APP. While your browser is the window through which you see the internet, a browser extension can change how it works, for example, how and which webpages are displayed to you. After all, a webpage is just a document and it’s trivial to change a few lines in it to add some ads or to change where links point. So, it’s simple for one of these hijackers to force your browser to open Nvux.xyz every time you search the web regardless of what your settings are.

These hijackers spread advertised with Recommended Extension ads and Flash SD App Required scams. These ads are pretty popular and often used to advertise all sorts of browser hijackers. They are quite misleading: Recommended Extension may look like your own browser’s pop-up, while the Flash SD APP Required is a fake software update prompt.

Nvux.xyz: "Recommended Extension" ads are used to push browser hjackers.

These ads appear on free streaming sites and other dubious websites. These ads open a new tab in your browser and may tell you that you need to install an extension, such as APP, to continue watching or to download your file. The Nvux.xyz hijacker appears in a narrow little window that hides what the extension actually is – a search engine hijacker. It doesn’t even display an icon next to your address bar, where browser extensions usually appear. So, you may accidentally install Nvux.xyz and not even realize it.

To avoid things like this happening, you can protect yourself:

  • block malicious websites with an ad-blocker or an antivirus program,
  • don’t trust sites that tell you to download and install a software update (there are a lot of fake ones, especially of the Flash Update type),
  • at the same time, keep your software updated (security fixes are as important as an antivirus program),
  • scan every installer that you download before running it.

These should help you avoid malware and hijackers like Nvux.xyz in the future.

How to stop Nvux.xyz redirects

Removing Nvux.xyz should be easy – just like a normal extension. Go to your browser settings and find all of your extensions. There, you should see the extension that’s responsible for redirecting your browser to Nvux.xyz. I don’t know exactly which one it is, but it might have an icon of a blue sheet with an ‘A’ on it. It can read and change your data on Bing.com, Google.com, and Yahoo.com. And it can read your browsing history.

If you’re unsure which extensions to remove, just disable all of them. Then re-enable them one-by-one until you see something you don’t like. Get rid of the extension that caused that.

If the Nvux.xyz extension is being reinstalled, make sure that syncing is disabled for extensions. You may also need to scan your computer for malware. Some extensions create scripts that reinstall them and those need to be deleted.

You can use any competent anti-malware program, some good ones Combo Cleaner for Mac and SpyHunter for PC.
