Type: Browser Hijacker
Other names: Ilivid.com virus, Ilivid hijacker

iLivid might be bothering you with changed settings on your web browsers. The application itself is described as video player/ downloads manager and is publicly accessible for the download on the Internet. However, this software is rarely downloaded on purpose – usually it’s a result of the bundle or aggressive online ads. We have discovered that it is associated with 3 potentially malicious websites and that changes from time to time. It’s searchnu.comsearch-results.com and torchbrowser.com (which can be seen in the picture below). If your computer is infected with iLivid virus, you are most probably going to experience your homepage, default search engine and new tab being changed to one of those websites at some time. Another infection that is associated with iLivid software is ilividlive.com virus – they share very similar name and it seems like this website was developed to promote mentioned software.

Even though LifeWire indicates that iLivid virus redirects users to ilivid.com website (1), we discovered that it is not true. Maybe it was a thing years ago, but now, users gets redirected to other websites and ilivid.com is not active anymore.

Why ILivid is unwanted?

As we have already mentioned, iLivid will automatically make some changes on your web browsers so you will be forced to pay a visit to a certain website every time you open a web browser. This would automatically cause trouble because you will waste your time and in addition to that, there is a risk that you will be redirected to the website which is malicious, thus your computer can get infected with other viruses or you can even get scammed and lose your money.

iLivid is also a threat to your privacy because it will most probably collect personal information about you, such as your IP and email addresses, information about the software and hardware you are using, your most visited websites and search queries. This information can be sold or simply transferred to third parties, so you don’t really know where it will end up – that’s very dangerous.

Finally, there are dozen of other symptoms that will occur if you leave iLivid installed on your system. For instance, your computer will run slower because various processes of this infection will be running in the background on the time. Also, additional malicious software can be installed on your computer without even warning you about that.

Removing ILivid from your computer

In this case you have to clean both your operating system and web browsers. If iLivid is installed on your computer, it will make some changes to your web browsers, so you have to deal with that first. Usually it adds some extensions, so you would need to disable and remove them. However, that’s not enough to completely solve the problem because if you leave iLivid installed on the computer, it will install new extension every time you reboot your computer. That’s why after fixing web browsers, you need to eliminate ILivid from a computer. It can be done by simply running uninstall wizard of the program, but there is a chance that some of the files will be still left stored on your hard drive. It might be difficult to detect them manually, so we recommend to get some help from reliable anti-malware tool, such as Reimage. Scan your computer with it and iLivid and all files associated with it will be removed automatically. If you prefer not to download any additional software, take a look at step-by-step tutorial how to remove iLivid virus, which is provided below.

  1. Ilivid is worse than described above as it overwrites a number of windows dll files – in particular it overwrites msvcr80.dll and msvcr100.dll with 32 bit executeables – which means that if you are running 64 bit windows apps that use the ms visual c++ library – all those 64 bit apps will fail to launch. This in particular affects Lightroom (adobe) as well as Steam installed games.

  2. I am very disappointed that in downloading what I thought was a video tool for facebook took away everything that had been set up for our internet browser. How dare you do this??!! Nobody will want to use your stuff!! STOP IT!!

  3. After downloading and installing a couple of (quite useful) freeware from CNET, I found that the iLivid Download popup kept appearing whenever I accessed my AOL Mail account, my Twitter acct and my Pinterest acct. I searched my computer for “ilivid” and found nothing to uninstall. Finally, I went through all the programs which my Revo free uninstaller turned up. In there, I found something called “Iminent.” I goodled Iminent and found it to be spyware…so I uninstalled IT! Guess what. No more iLived. Iminent is apparently iLivid. Problem solved quickly and simply…once I determined what the problem actually was.

  4. How do you uninstall this. I just wanted to watch a movie and now it’s overwriting google on my laptop

  5. Every time I opened my chrome browser, ilivid tabs extension gets enabled at startup(even after removal). Home pages, search engines also got modified for IE, firefox, chrome browsers.
Just now found a simple way to remove this ilivid thing. It’s disguised in controlpanel, under search results toolbar xxxx name.
Open control panel -> search resutls toolbar .. -> uninstall. This has uninstalled this infamous troubleware. Now its peaceful as before..
