CouponXplorer Toolbar - How to remove

CouponXplorer Toolbar (by MyWay) is a browser hijacker that has been noticed to be added to Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. The program changes your homepage to home.tb.ask.com or, in the newer iterations, to hp.myway.com/CouponXplorer. It also replaces your search provider with search.tb.ask.com and has a search bar that leads to search.myway.com. The program seeks to promote various websites, mostly the ones connected to MyWay.

About CouponXplorer

The stated function of this CouponXplorer Toolbar is to help users get easier access to all sorts of coupons that give discounts to various goods. These printable coupons are free and can be used to purchase items for lower prices. If only CouponXplorer was actually good at this.

CouponXplorer Toolbar leads to many unwanted actions to happen on your computer. Users can be very annoyed by the changes made in browser settings. If you are used to having a specific start page and search engine, you will not want to use any others, yet the aforementioned browser virus hijacks those browser settings. Even if you save the changes, after you open a browser, you will get redirected to the same CouponXplorer new tab page as if no modifications were made. Besides, the toolbar causes many redirections and alters search results by adding commercial pages. It disturbs your activities on the Internet and it can also lead to rerouting to infected pages.

CouponXplorer is a browser-hijacker toolbar that pretends to help users find shopping coupons:

Former users of CouponXplorer say that this toolbar is nothing more than an application for tracking users’ online activity. Others complained that they had not installed this program, but their browser preferences were rearranged anyhow. Mindspark Interactive, the founders of this and many other applications, including EasyCouponAccess, ShoppingDealsLive, and FreeShoppingTool, are quick to claim that their extensions are not browser hijackers or adware, but the evidence is clear. These tollbars do nothing more than promote Ask and MyWay, hijack the home and new tab pages and the default search settings, and place third-party ads in the web search results.

If any displayed ads are of low-quality or are involved in some shady activity, your interaction with such content is not a headache for the creators of CouponXplorer. All of the services provided by third-party partners are their own business and any problem arising has to be dealt through other companies. Be aware that such third-party domains usually follow ambiguous Privacy Policies and Terms and Conditions that is why your visit might be dealt with not the highest level of discretion. Meanwhile, CouponXplorer has access to your browsing history and search queries and can use that information to personalize your ads.

Distribution Methods of CouponXplorer

If you haven’t downloaded CouponXplorer Toolbar by yourself, it was probably downloaded and installed thanks to malicious ads. Such ads generally infect free streaming sites, pirating, adult, filesharing websites, but can appear anywhere. They are also promoted by adware infections. The bad ads redirect you to the CouponXplorer installation site. Sometimes, the download process starts automatically. Other times, you’re given the impression that you need to install the extension in order to access some content on another website (you don’t, these ads are just made to mislead people). CouponXplorer might have also been installed together with some other applications that you were downloading from the Internet. To avoid that, follow every installation step and remove the checkboxes for installing any programs that you are not aware of. If you skip this step, most likely all bundled programs will be added automatically.

If you want to remove this search-redirecting toolbar, you should check browser extensions for Google Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, and Firefox, and remove CouponXplorer and other Mindspark extensions (like Ask) from there. If you do not see it listed or want to check for adware, you should use antimalware tools like SpyHunter for PC or Combo Cleaner for Mac and scan your computer with it. You might need to reset your home page and search engine to the one you used before to complete the removal. Also, you might benefit from scanning your whole computer in-depth because CouponXplorer shares its distribution strategy with some serious malware infections and it’s just good to be careful.
