ConvertrzSearch Redirects - How to remove

ConvertrzSearch (also known as Convertrz-search.com) hijacks the browser and redirects your searches to Yahoo.com. Many of those infected with ConvertrzSearch might not know about it because ConvertrzSearch tricks people into downloading it and is quite difficult to notice once it’s installed. Its effects are pretty obvious, though: search results are opened in Yahoo. This is yet another Yahoo redirect virus.

How ConvertrzSearch works

Sneaks in thanks to deceptive ads

ConvertrzSearch uses deceptive ads, spam links, and redirects to show people the offer to install Convertrz-search.com. It looks like a Download Ready page, or maybe a Recommended Extension page. Either way, it’s far from an honest presentation. People install ConvertrzSearch when they mistakenly believe they’re getting a software update or downloading a completely unrelated file.

Once installed, ConvertrzSearch displays a thank-you page with an affiliate link. After that, you can see ConvertrzSearch in your address bar, but that’s it. Your new tab page may look a little different but ConvertrzSearch doesn’t replace it.

There is a kind of a page that ConvertrzSearch has, you can find it on Portal.convertrz-search.com.

Hijacks searches

After hijacking the address bar, ConvertrzSearch redirects searches to Yahoo.com. It takes your search query, then creates a new URL with the query. ConvertrzSearch creates a URL to open whichever site it wants, whether it’s Yahoo or something else.

You can still manually visit other search sites, such as Google and Bing. But, in theory, ConvertrzSearch has control over anything you type in your address bar – it could redirect to affiliated websites and even change some search queries or their search results.

To help with advertising, ConvertrzSearch also uses notifications. If you clicked “Allow” when Convertrz-search.com or another shady site asked you, you may get pop-ups from those sites. That’s more money for advertisers and for the sites showing the notifications. Search hijacking is a way for creators of browser extensions to make money, but it’s also the sort of thing that gets extensions removed from the Chrome store.

ConvertrzSearch is very similar to StreamsSearch, VideozSearchs, SportsHDSearchs, and other search hijackers. They all are extremely similar and are likely created by the same company.

Convertrz-search.com has a new tab page, even though you never see it.

  • Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
