Is Bravo PDF Converter dangerous?

A bad PDF converter

Bravo PDF Converter (Bravo Free PDF Converter Suite) is downloaded from Free-pdfsoftware.com.

In theory, Bravo PDF Converter is for converting PDFs to other formats, like Word, Excel, images, and others. It claims to offer perfect layout preservation, but that doesn’t seem to be true. It doesn’t have nearly enough settings needed to convert different types of PDFs. It’s a low-quality, outdated tool and you can easily find better programs.

In addition, Bravo PDF Converter is quite dishonest. On Free-pdfsoftware.com, it claims to have good reviews from various publications, like Computer Bild and Softpedia. But these sites have no reviews of Bravo PDF Converter that I can find. It looks as though the reviews that Free-pdfsoftware.com is quoting are made-up. I did find another site with the same reviews – Free-pdf-to-word.org. It promotes PDF to Word Converter Free, which seems to be the same program as Bravo PDF Converter.

The company behind Bravo PDF Converter is published by Beijing Hangxin Gaoke, a company that is associated with some other suspicious programs, such as FreeSoundRecorder.

Installs spyware

Even if Bravo PDF Converter is a bad PDF converter, that doesn’t matter – the problem is that antivirus programs detect it as being malware and adware (FusionCore). Here’s a page with scan results – VirusTotal.com.

These detections mean that Bravo PDF Converter installs unwanted additional programs, some of which are harmful. One of the programs that Bravo PDF Converter installs in RelevantKnowledge, a spyware program that shows pop-ups on your screen.

The idea is that Bravo PDF Converter is offered as a useful and free utility so that people can easily download and try it. But really, Bravo PDF Converter is just the lure. The real product is the adware that comes with Bravo PDF Converter. That adware infects your computer and your web browser and makes money for its operators.

Fake update and other issues

Besides installing a spyware program, Bravo PDF Converter also shows a fake update warning. If you try to close it, you’re discouraged with a message that it’s a very important upgrade.

In other programs that seem to be related to Bravo PDF Converter, like Free PDF Viewer for Windows and Free Audio Editor, the “update” created a pop-up that would show up in case you dared uninstall the program.

In Bravo PDF Converter’s case, I couldn’t even completely uninstall it – it left many of its files behind, but disappeared from the Control Panel as though it was removed.

Also, I find myself suspicious – why does one of Bravo PDF Converter’s executables have an icon that looks like Acrobat? Acrobat (by Adobe) is a very reputable and widely used program. Is Bravo PDF Converter trying to imitate it? This could lead to misunderstandings.

How to remove Bravo PDF Converter

Uninstall Bravo PDF Converter and other suspicious programs. Scan your computer for malware and remove all the malicious and potentially unwanted programs and files. Delete malicious files yourself or use an antivirus program.

An antivirus program, such as Spyhunter, would be able to find and delete malicious files for you. In addition, manually review the programs that you’ve recently installed and remove unknown ones. Look them up online if you aren’t sure.

Specifically, open your C drive and go to the folder called Program Files. Here, look for Bravo Free PDF Converter Suite, RelevantKnowledge, and other suspicious folders. If there’s still something there even after you uninstalled the programs (in my case, there was), delete them.
