Stheweatherpilot.com Hijacker - How to remove

Although Stheweatherpilot.com is not harmful, neither is it helpful, and it could expose you to dangerous ads and more browser hijackers. Stheweatherpilot.com is adware

Stheweatherpilot.com is a website that serves as the new tab page for those browsers that have The Weather Pilot Tab installed. Stheweatherpilot.com is characterized by a search box in the middle of the page. Above the search box there is a link that says “Click Here To Check Today’s Weather Forecast” and opens Nationalweatheragency.org (a weather site that shows way too many clickbait ads).  Stheweatherpilot.com also has a toolbar that has a menu button that can open another menu with some links to weather forecast sites, including the Weather Channel, a few AccuWeather pages, and a few Myforecast.co pages.

Online, The Weather Pilot Tab is promoted as giving you access to “Live Weather Forecast” and “daily weather forecast”. And though Stheweatherpilot.com does provide these things, it does that really poorly. Why are weather links buried in a submenu? Why is Stheweatherpilot.com a new tab page instead of an extension pop-up? Why must you open Nationalweatheragency.org, a site full of shady ads, to see the forecast?

Stheweatherpilot.com’s forecasting features are inconvenient to use, waste people’s time, and can even expose them to malicious ads. The Weather Pilot Tab is not a good browser extension.

Browser extensions are little programs that can be installed on a browser to change some of its features. Any person or company can create extensions and upload them online. Official extension stores check them for malicious code, but the sheer volume of new submissions makes it impossible to weed out all the malware. Besides, The Weather Pilot Tab isn’t really malware. It’s more like adware, with Stheweatherpilot.com promoting ad-filled sites and tracking people’s online activities.

Stheweatherpilot.com is very similar to the other Eightpoint Technologies creations, like Weather Forecaster and Current Weather Tab.

Stheweatherpilot.com advertises as providing "Live weather forecast".

How The Weather Pilot Tab was installed

There are a few explanations for how Stheweatherpilot.com appeared on your screen:

  • The Weather Pilot Tab could have come bundled with a free app installer. Bundling is a marketing technique where the marketed app is included with another program. If you didn’t check the installer settings, it could have installed The Weather Pilot Tab without you even noticing.
  • Deceptive ads could also be at fault. Theweatherpilot.com isn’t very clear about it installing The Weather Pilot Tab. It can be confusing and lead to unintentional installations, especially if you’re unfamiliar with browser extensions.
  • Promos by other extensions. The Weather Pilot Tab is made by Eightpoint Technologies, a browser hijacker factory. Its extensions often get installed together and promote each other.

A not on deceptive ads is that you’re most likely to encounter them if your web browser is already infected with some kind of search redirector. Sites like Izito, Kensaq.com, Searchincognito.com often advertise browser hijackers – but they themselves are spread by browser hijackers and adware infections. If that matches your situation, check your device for malware (besides The Weather Pilot Tab).
