Searchiing.com Hijacker - How to remove

Searchiing.com is a browser hijacker and a new tab replacer. It lacks any useful features and is just terrible for privacy. If Searchiing.com appeared and started using Yahoo.com to display your search results, then a malicious browser extension must have been installed.

Searchiing.com can be stopped by finding and deleting malicious apps and extensions. If it keeps returning despite you having removed the associated extensions, then you need to dig a little deeper. Some malware can be very persistent.

Problems with Searchiing.com

What is Searchiing.com

Searchiing.com is a simple webpage that’s designed to look like a browser new tab or a start page: it has a search box in the middle, a few links, including what look like affiliate links, and a pretty background picture. The search bar is for searching the internet and it opens Yahoo.com to deliver the search results. You could consider Searchiing.com to be a type of Yahoo redirect.

Searchiing.com is most popular in Mexico and Spain, so it might be targeting Spanish speakers.

Searchiing.com doesn’t appear to be very dangerous. It’s distracting and bad for productivity and for privacy but it’s only mildly harmful.

Bad for privacy

If you read Searchiing.com’s privacy policy, you can see that it collects a lot of technical data on each user to identify them. Here’s a quote from the privacy policy:

We may collect technical information from your device, including size of system memory, CPU, video hardware, browser types, installation date, changes made in your system, time zone, operating system, whether you have administrative privileges in your operating system, your default search providers, browser language, operating system language, and whether the system is 32bit or 64bit.

According to the same document, one of the uses of the collected information is to show ads to users. Searchiing.com claims that it only logs search queries to be able to show search results but I’m not sure it can be trusted.

Unwanted installation

Searchiing.com infects browsers – it appears without having asked for permission. I first found out about Searchiing.com after seeing complaints online about how people’s browsers started going to Searchiing.com. Most likely, some kind of a hijacker is responsible for the Searchiing.com redirects, like an app that changes browser settings. Luckily, it’s simple enough to solve by removing the malware.

Searchiing.com is similar in how it works to Mybrowser-search.comSmedia.xyz, and many other search hijackers – all of which use deceptive ads, bundling, and other methods to sneak into browsers unnoticed.

Thanks to such dishonest installation, it’s really hard to recognize the problem. It’s also hard to know how to remove Searchiing.com when you don’t know what caused it.

Searchiing.com looks like a new tab page with a few affiliate links.

How to stop Searchiing.com redirects

Find malicious extensions

Searchiing.com is a website that exists on its own. To remove it from your browser, you need to find the apps and add-ons that may be forcing your browser to keep loading Searchiing.com.

At the bottom, it’s explained how to check browser settings and add-ons. Find which ones are suspicious that may be causing the Searchiing.com redirects:

  • Unknown add-ons are suspicious by default: if you didn’t install it, why is it there?
  • Permissions used by add-ons are revealing, too: they might not mention Searchiing.com but they might mention replacing your new tab or your default search engine.
  • Also, some add-ons don’t let you see their details – they redirect away from the details page, and that’s an instant red flag.

If Searchiing.com refuses to be removed

When I was looking up Searchiing.com, I found similarities to Search Manager (Srchmgre.com) which used to be a very frustrating hijacker to remove (it doesn’t seem to be active anymore). So, let’s address some of the difficulties that people experience with removing malicious browser extensions:

  • If the extension is reinstalled after being removed, try turning off sync.
  • If the extension can’t be removed because it or your browser is managed by an administrator or an enterprise, we have an article explaining how to get around that.
  • Scan your computer with an anti-malware application. Malware could be preventing bad browser extensions from being removed and it can be difficult to find it manually.

Use manual efforts and an anti-malware program

For the quickest and most effective removal of the Searchiing.com hijacker, it’s best to combine manual efforts with automatic malware removal tools, such as Spyhunter for PC, Combo Cleaner for Mac, and others.

Anti-malware programs can find bad files but they can’t always fix system settings, so you’ll need to do that yourself. As per the instructions below, check your default search engine and set it to your preferred site. If you successfully deleted all malware from your computer, Searchiing.com won’t return.
