Recry1 ransomware - How to remove

Recry1 is the name of a computer virus that locks files and forces people to pay money to get them back. This type of infection can cause a lot of inconvenience and grief if you aren’t ready for it. Unlike screen lockers like CIA Special Agent 767 Screen Locker, cryptoviruses like PottieqDrume, and Recry1 cannot be easily defeated as they

A cryptovirus attack can be expensive and time-consuming, and the ransomware threat hasn’t diminished, but only grown in the last few years, endangering the files of individuals, as well as companies. It’s important to know how to protect yourself against ransomware, but even then, no one is truly safe against these constantly improving cryptoviruses.

How does Recry1 work?

You know that you’ve been infected with ransomware if your files stop working, and have been renamed. Files locked by Recry1 have a new extension: .recry1. Like a lot of cryptoviruses, Recry1 is named after the extension that it gives the encrypted files. You must also have found the message from the developer of the virus, named decryption_help.txt.

all your files have been ecrypted with super strong salsa20/20 encryption (each with a random new key)
if you want your files back contact me at telegram messenger https://t.me/rc1support (for downloading telegram messenger https://telegram.org/)

you can send 2 files to be decrypted for free for getting sure about our abillity to decrypt your files (the files should be small and not contain any important data)

please notice that this program uses 2 strong rsa 2048 public keys for encryption
even if you have the encryptorr adn the decryptor with it sources code no one can decrypt your files without my private key
any attamp to recover your data with any other soft may result in crupption so MAKE BACKUP of your encrypted fiels before trying any soft (althought none can recover your files without my private key)

please note that the decryption is NOT FREE (you can send 2 files for free to test )

The use of Telegram, an otherwise legitimate app, by online criminals is described in this article. The developer of Recry1 also likely wants to be paid in Bitcoin (or another cryptocurrency), which is convenient to cybercriminals because it’s digital, actions with it can be automated, and it’s relatively anonymous. Remember that online extortion like what Recry1 is trying to do is illegal, so the cybercriminals try to not have their identities revealed, or they might even get arrested.

Salsa20/20 is a type of cipher that locks files by changing their bits, the fundamental blocks of digital files. The encryption is reversible, but for now, the contents of the files cannot be extracted, even though the files are still there. Salsa20 is symmetric, meaning that the decryption key is the same as the encryption key, meaning that it was on your computer. Unfortunately, the developer of Recry1 also mentions public-key encryption (RSA), which is typically used by ransomware viruses to encrypt the decryption keys. Recry1 developer is the only one who has the decryption keys, meaning that we’ll have to find another way to unlock your files.

How to remove Recry1 and recover your files

First, the best defense against Recry1 is being ready for it. Up-to-date file backups that are stored separately from your disk would make it simple to recover from Recry1 infection, as you would not even need to decrypt the files — just restore them from the backup. Even if you don’t remember making any backups, see if you have a restore point on your PC and do a System Restore. No free decryption is currently available for Recry1, and paying is not a good idea — you’d be giving money to an extortionist, and the decryption tool would not be helpful to the other victims of Recry1.

Before any of that, though, scan your computer and remove malware. Ransomware, including Recry1, is mostly distributed in the same ways that other viruses are, and it’s important to be sure that no malware is left on your PC. Use an antivirus program that you trust, like Spyhunter.

In the future, be careful when online. Make sure that your passwords are complex, and beware of viruses arriving on spam emails spread by botnets.

Step 2. Complete removal of Recry1 ransomware

After restoring your system, it is recommended to scan your computer with an anti-malware program, like Spyhunter and remove all malicious files related to Recry1 ransomware. You can check other tools here.

Step 3. Restore Recry1 ransomware affected files using Shadow Volume Copies

If you do not use System Restore option on your operating system, there is a chance to use shadow copy snapshots. They store copies of your files that point of time when the system restore snapshot was created. Usually Recry1 ransomware tries to delete all possible Shadow Volume Copies, so this methods may not work on all computers. However, it may fail to do so. Shadow Volume Copies are only available with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. There are two ways to retrieve your files via Shadow Volume Copy. You can do it using native Windows Previous Versions or via Shadow Explorer. a) Native Windows Previous Versions Right-click on an encrypted file and select PropertiesPrevious versions tab. Now you will see all available copies of that particular file and the time when it was stored in a Shadow Volume Copy. Choose the version of the file you want to retrieve and click Copy if you want to save it to some directory of your own, or Restore if you want to replace existing, encrypted file. If you want to see the content of file first, just click Open.
Previous version
b) Shadow Explorer It is a program that can be found online for free. You can download either a full or a portable version of Shadow Explorer. Open the program. On the left top corner select the drive where the file you are looking for is a stored. You will see all folders on that drive. To retrieve a whole folder, right-click on it and select “Export”. Then choose where you want it to be stored.

Step 4. Use Data Recovery programs to recover Recry1 ransomware encrypted files

There are several data recovery programs that might recover encrypted files as well. This does not work in all cases but you can try this:
  • We suggest using another PC and connect the infected hard drive as slave. It is still possible to do this on infected PC though.
  • Download a data recovery program.
  • Install and scan for recently deleted files. Data Recovery Pro
Note: In many cases it is impossible to restore data files affected by modern ransomware. Thus I recommend using decent cloud backup software as precaution. We recommend checking out Carbonite, BackBlaze, CrashPlan or Mozy Home.
