What is ProSearchStreams?

Browser hijacker

ProSearchStreams is a browser add-on. Unlike most browser extensions, it doesn’t have any useful features. All it does is change your browser settings, spy on your activities, and lay low, hoping that you won’t notice it.

ProSearchStreams makes Feed.prosearchstreams.com into your default search engine. This site leads to Yahoo.com. So, with ProSearchStreams installed, your browser begins delivering web search results in Yahoo.com. This is very common for browser hijackers (Yahoo redirect virus).

You might notice that the text in your address bar changes. Your new tab page might also look different – for instance, if there always used to be a search box on your new tab, it might disappear, leaving just a blank page.

Prosearchstreams.com might also display pop-up ads on your screen.

While it’s taking over your searches, ProSearchStreams also takes the opportunity to spy on them. It can ready your search queries, which sites you visit, which ads you click on. Yet another advertising program that tracks you. But, unlike more reputable companies, ProSearchStreams is very obscure. It’s not even clear who the company behind it is. It might be the same company that made Linkury and Safe Finder, based on the address.

Prosearchstreams.com has a seach box and a few utility links.

Trojan

ProSearchStreams usually relies on deceptive ads to get installed. It shows pop-up ads that look like download buttons or mandatory extensions, pushing people to install an add-on that they might not want. Some might not even realize that they just added an extension to their browser.

The ads for ProSearchStreams get displayed on various websites:

  • free movie sites,
  • file hosting sites,
  • online video converters,
  • torrenting sites.

They tend to look like download links or “required” extensions, but they’re nothing more than misleading ads.

If ProSearchStreams had any useful features, it wouldn’t need to use misleading ads to get people to install it. It would also be able to justify the spying and advertising that it does by saying that it’s in exchange for the features that it provides.

Although, even useful extensions aren’t always able to justify the spying that they engage in (Chrome is adding new privacy features in 2021).
