One Click Booster - How to remove

One Click Booster is a fake optimiser, a potentially unwanted program that targets PC users. It is very similar to other programs: PC Smart Cleanup, Advance-System-Care, and other PUPs. Programs like these promise to improve the performance of a computer. This is attractive to people whose computers are struggling to run as well as they used to. As hardware standards rise, new software takes advantage of that, and people with older computers are left behind. Unfortunately, One Click Booster is not the solution, but rather, just another scam.

How did you install it?

Popup ads on the web can be seen promoting various PC optimisers. Remember to research a program before installing it, as ads can be deceptive. Professional advertising networks do not allow misleading and unethical ads, but not all advertising networks have high standards. Low-quality ads could be caused by adware or browser hijackers, but that should only be your concern if you are constantly bombarded with intrusive and deceptive ads. A few low-quality ads here and there is probably nothing to be worried about.

Freeware download websites (like where One Click Booster is). Not all software download sites have high standards. Many bundle promoted software together with your desired files. You can easily end up accidentally installing some additional stuff that you didn’t ask for. Look up each program before installing it.

Why should One Click Booster not be trusted?

One Click Booster offers lots of cool functions. The problem is that those functions and tools are already available to Windows users, for example:

  • clean up files — Windows has that tool already,
  • repair registry — that’s risky, and Microsoft advises against having optimisers “repair” the registry,
  • fix hard drive errors — Windows has that tool already,
  • defragment your hard drive — Windows already does that automatically.

When you use One Click Booster, it scans the machine and finds hundreds of errors (169 on a new installation). I know for a fact that the computer that One Click Booster scanned is fine, and yet it constantly acts like the PC has serious problems that need to be fixed ASAP. The fix is, of course, buying the full version of the program.

Another problem with One Click Booster is its distribution. Like I mentioned, bundling is common with freeware. While trying to install the One Click Booster I accidentally downloaded and ran the advertised software. This is not a big problem — I can uninstall the programs that I do not need. Still, it is a little frustrating. None of the programs that I trust and regularly use came in bundles, nor bundled any applications with them, but with potentially unwanted programs like One Click Booster, this type of distribution is expected.

So what can you do to improve the performance of your PC? Although the hardware limitations cannot be solved with software (sometimes for better performance you just need to upgrade), there are things that you can try. Make sure the computer is clear of dust (hardware that’s too hot might work slower and sometimes unexpectedly shut down). Go to Control Panel and uninstall unneeded programs (a guide is below this article). Go to startup and consider disabling some of the programs. Windows has tools to help users customise their experience, take advantage of that.

How to remove One Click Booster

You can continue using One Click Booster, but remember that it does not do anything valuable and that registry cleaners like One Click Booster can harm the operating system.

If you decide to uninstall it, you can do it manually, by going to the Control Panel. However, I recommend scanning your machine with an antivirus program that you trust (for example, Spyhunter). Common malware and PUP distribution methods mean that it’s likely that if there is one potentially unwanted program on your PC, there are a few more.

How to remove One Click Booster using Windows Control Panel

Many hijackers and adware like One Click Booster install some of their components as regular Windows programs as well as additional software. This part of malware can be uninstalled from the Control Panel. To access it, do the following.
  • Start→Control Panel (older Windows) or press Windows Key→Search and enter Control Panel and then press Enter (Windows 8, Windows 10). Open Control Panel by searching for it in the Start menu.
  • Choose Uninstall Program (if you don't see it, click in the upper right next to "View by" and select Category). In Control Panel, select Uninstall a program.
  • Go through the list of programs and select entries related to One Click Booster . You can click on "Name" or "Installed On" to reorder your programs and make One Click Booster easier to find. Find the program that you need to uninstall.
  • Click the Uninstall button. If you're asked if you really want to remove the program, click Yes. Click the Uninstall button after selecting the program to uninstall. Then click Yes.
  • In many cases anti-malware programs are better at detecting related parasites, thus I recommend installing Spyhunter to identify other programs that might be a part of this infection. Spyhunter marking a program and its components as low-threat malware.
