Content4you.net is an ad spamming site. It shows pop-up ads even when it’s not open. It does this by tricking people into subscribing to its notifications.

The content that Content4you.net promotes is annoying and often unsafe (Content4you.net advertised some scams and malware).

Luckily, it’s simple to block Content4you.net from showing any more ads on your screen by disabling unwanted notifications in your browser settings.

Dangers of Content4you.net ads and redirects

Hijacks notifications to use as ads

As a website, Content4you.net is very strange. It’s full of pictures of video players, CAPTCHAs, and deceptive notifications.

If you find yourself on Content4you.net, you are probably confronted by pop-ups telling you to click the “Allow” button:

Press “Allow” to close this window

This window may be closed by pressing “Allow” button. If you want to continue using this site, just click on more info.

There are pop-ups upon pop-ups, the Content4you.net window expands to full screen, and there’s a picture of a video player or a robot check box somewhere around. Almost locking the browser.

Overall, it’s a little overwhelming.

The goal of Content4you.net is to manipulate and pressure people into clicking that Allow button, even if it has to lie about what the button does. This would allow Content4you.net to send notifications to the individual web browser which clicked the button. Notifications can serve as advertisements, giving Content4you.net easy access to a new audience for ads – and more ad revenue.

Stoomoogn.com, Getawesome3.com, and other sites do the same thing – trick people, hijack their notifications, and spam ads.

Advertises malicious websites

If you don’t close Content4you.net right away but continue interacting with it, sooner or later, it opens a promoted website – an ad.

  • $1000 gift card giveaway scams are very common. These are phishing scams where people are tricked into filling out a form after being promised a free gift card. The victims’ information is used to sign them up for subscriptions or rope them into reward schemes.
  • The 5 billionth search, Annual visitor survey, and other scams are also spread by Content4you.net.
  • Some versions of Content4you.net tried to promote a fake WhatsApp update. In this scheme, the user is told that they must install the update, or else you’ll lose all your WhatsApp data. In the end, a totally unrelated app is offered.
  • Often, Content4you.net just opens an adult video site. These sites aren’t harmful, except for the fact that they often allow aggressive and often malicious ads to be displayed. Indeed, Content4you.net itself is advertised on such sites.

Content4you.net lies about what the Allow button does.

How to stop ads by Content4you.net

Block notifications

Content4you.net uses notifications, which is a feature in all major web browsers, including desktop and mobile versions, to deliver ads straight to your browser.

I recommend blocking Content4you.net’s notifications from your browser settings. Because Content4you.net has a huge number of subdomains that can have separate entries to your notifications, blocking them as they pop up (by clicking the little gear button) may not be practical. In the settings, you can see all the versions of Content4you.net right away.

  1. Open your browser and go to notifications:
    • Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
    • Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
    • Edge (Chromium) – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
    • Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
  2. Find all entries that have Content4you.net in their names and that are allowed to send notifications.
  3. Next to each entry, open the options and select Block from the drop-down.

There’s also the option to disable or quieten the notification offers in the future. You could also use an anti-malware program that can block malicious sites, malicious scripts, and other dangerous stuff.

Remove other malware

In addition, scan your computer with an antivirus program, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, etc. to check it for malicious programs and adware viruses. If you downloaded any apps or programs that Content4you.net promoted, you may want to remove them.

If you interacted with any giveaways or surveys that Content4you.net advertised, consider if you revealed any information about yourself. For example, if you revealed your passwords, then change them; if you filled in your credit card information, keep a close eye on your account.
