Alltopposts.com Ads - How to remove

Alltopposts.com is a notification-hijacking adware site that tricks people into subscribing to its ads. It promotes controversial and, in some cases, dangerous sites and products and it shows pop-ups even when it’s not open in the browser.

Luckily, Alltopposts.com can be stopped from showing ads – its web push notifications need to be blocked in browser settings. It’s quick and easy to do.

What is Alltopposts.com?

If you open the Alltopposts.com site normally, you will see a news site – or something like it. The articles on the site are taken from LATimes, but no links, illustrations, or formatting remain, making Alltopposts.com appear very bare.

There are ads – the notification-like pop-ups in the corner. They’re promoting potentially unwanted software and cryptocurrency trading scams.

If, on the other hand, you land on Alltopposts.com after a redirect from another site, it shows a loading bar with a line of text asking you to subscribe to push notifications. If you agree to subscribe to its notifications by clicking the Allow button, Alltopposts.com starts sending you pop-up ads.

Ads for Alltopposts.com appear on file download sites, faucet sites, video pirating websites, and other similar sites. Alltopposts.com appears in a new tab of your browser, just sitting there. If you interact with the site, like to close the notification prompt, Alltopposts.com opens a promoted website (for me, it was an ad for a gambling website).

In essence, Alltopposts.com is an advertising site that uses notifications (direct messages from a website to a browser) to deliver its ads.

Alltopposts.com asks visitors to allow its notifications.

How to stop ads by Alltopposts.com

As it’s notifications responsible for Alltopposts.com’s ads, you only need to change your notification settings to stop the unwanted pop-ups from Alltopposts.com and any other sites that abuse the same browser features.

Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open your browser and go to notifications:
    • Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
    • Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
    • Edge (Chromium) – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
    • Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
  2. Find the Allowed list or review the addresses that are labeled as Allowed.
  3. Find Alltopposts.com and other unwanted sites and click the buttons next to their entries, then select Block.

Alltopposts.com promotes adware and other malware. The reverse is true, as well. So, scan your device with Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, or other antivirus scanners. If malicious or even potentially unwanted programs are detected, consider removing them.

How to protect yourself from notification spammers

You could limit your browsing of sites that show aggressive ads, but you might not want to do that. Luckily, there are many options to protect yourself without having to change your browsing habits.

You can disable web push notifications so that sites won’t be allowed to ask you to enable them. You will still be able to allow site notifications, but you would have to manually add their addresses to your browser’s list of Allowed sites. This way, you can’t accidentally subscribe to any site’s push ads.

Alltopposts.com is far from the only such website that hijacks notifications to use them for advertising. Stoomoogn.com is one of many similar sites, but there is also Content4you.net, which is an example of an even more deceptive hijacker.

Another option to consider is to use anti-malware programs to block malicious sites. Different anti-malware programs have different ideas about what sites to block, and besides, none of them are perfect. Alltopposts.com is only blocked by some scanners (Virustotal.com), but it’s better than nothing.

Ad blockers can also be used. After all, it was an advertisement that opened Alltopposts.com in the first place. Just be sure to use a reputable ad blocker and not one of the malicious ones.
