Windows Antivirus Master - How to remove?

What is Windows Antivirus Master?

Windows Antivirus Master is a rogue antivirus program that belongs to FakeVimes family. You may already know this family from its previous releases, like Windows Safety Master, Windows Efficiency Master, etc. The program is distributed with a help of Trojans which ensure completely secret intrusion. Once inside, Windows Antivirus Master pretends to be an antivirus program, although it has no abilities to detect or remove anything.

Some computer users may confuse its activity with Windows Defender, which is a legitimate security tool for Windows. At first, the program imitates scanning your computer and looking for infections. In couple of minutes the application displays a list of supposedly detected threats and recommends removing them immediately. To continue with removal, you will be asked to purchase a license of Windows Antivirus Master, which doesn’t even exists. This is just one more unfair method that cyber criminals use to earn money.

If your computer was infected by this fake antivirus, it will also block any access to your other programs. Instead of running them normally, you will receive a security notification warning that your PC is suspected to have a virus. Beware that it’s a bogus notification that is just a part of Windows Antivirus Master scam. Here is how this message looks like:

Firewall has blocked a program from accessing the Internet
Internet Explorer
C:\program files\internet explorer\iexplorer.exe

C:\program files\internet explorer\iexplorer.exe
is suspected to have infected your PC.
This type of virus intercepts entered data and transmits them to a remote server.
Recommended: Please click “Prevent attack” button to prevent all attacks and protect your PC

If you have noticed Windows Antivirus Master scanner running on your computer, your PC has definitely been infected. However, this is a fake scanner that will not help you to solve any issues. You should remove Windows Antivirus Master itself if you want to be able to use your computer normally again. Use a reputable antispyware program, for example, Spyhunter or other security tool that you trust. You should be able to run it from other administrator account on your PC as it affects a single account only.
