WebSearch.com virus - How to remove

WebSearch.com virus is a browser hijacker that secretly infiltrates Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, or Mozilla Firefox browsers and tries to promote several commercial websites. Computer users might install this hijacker on their own, or, more likely, it’s installed by other programs downloaded from the internet.

WebSearch.com is not alone among dubious search hijackers — there’s Ourwebsearch.com, Onewebsearch.com, Maxwebsearch.com, and many other adware sites acting like they are serious search engines. Usually, this type of website is designed to make money from affiliate marketing and promote various sponsored pages.

Additionally, WebSearch.com virus can attempt to add other potentially unwanted programs, like browser extension, plugins, etc. This type of website is promoted while installing other software or with the help of dishonest ads. Basically, if you have WebSearch.com, there’s a greater chance that you have other potentially unwanted software on your computer. So, when installing a program you downloaded from the internet, be sure to choose custom or advanced installation options, so you would be able to see all attempts to change your browser settings or install additional tools to your computer. And scan each installer before you run it with a good antivirus tool.

You should never allow your homepage to be replaced with little known pages like WebSearch.com unless you deliberately set that up yourself.

How WebSearch.com gets installed

WebSearch.com is the page, but it has an associated toolbar, which is the thing that changes your browser behavior and stops WebSearch.com from being removed from the settings. Browser add-ons have other powers, like seeing what you do online and changing the way that websites are displayed, so having a malicious add-on on your browser could be dangerous. WebSearch is thought to be harmful, just look at how many security programs warn their users about it.

Bundling and malicious ads are the main ways that WebSearch.com gets on people’s computers. It can be installed with free music players, video recorders, PDF creators and a bunch of other applications without them clearly disclosing about it — known as bundling. Then there are also the misleading ads that don’t clearly explain they’re going to install an add-on. Usually, the end result is an unexpected program that seems to have come out of nowhere.

During WebSearch.com’s installation, some users might be recommended additional offers, so if your browser is hijacked by one junk add-on, others could have been installed, too.

Issues with WebSearch.com

Once on your computer, the add-on replaces your homepage and default search provider with WebSearch.com. Although at first glance the website looks like a normal search engine, if you try using it, you will see that its search results are based mainly on sponsored websites. Ads make money for WebSearch.com. Of course, they hurt user experience because so many of the results are just trying to sell you something.

WebSearch, a search bar

Additionally, WebSearch.com can show numerous advertisements when you browse and cause redirections to suspicious websites. The ads can appear on almost any site and even hover on top of site content — and they’re not valuable, in fact, a lot of the promoted content is potentially dangerous stuff that normal advertising networks stay away from. It’s not funny when an ad by WebSearch.com redirects you to some unknown page when you don’t know if the advertiser is ethical, or if they’re out to scam people.

As you know, visiting unknown pages is not recommended if you don’t want to risk your system being infected. For this reason and because it infiltrates without users’ authorization, WebSearch.com is considered to be a dubious search engine.
