WebDiscover Browser - How to remove

WebDiscover is described by its authors as a browser that broadens your horizons and allows you to experience everything the web has to offer. WebDiscover is based on the Chromium browser, therefore, its user interface is familiar to many. In addition, it boasts of useful features like a VPN service, weather forecasts, music streaming, and a media player.

WebDiscover’s functions may seem useful. However, antivirus scanners flag the WebDiscover browser as Adware, PUP (potentially unwanted program), and Malware. Here’s the full list of scan results of one of WebDiscover’s installers: Virustotal.com. And there are good reasons for these detections.

The guide below will provide you with detailed information on why exactly WebDiscover is not a good choice and how to remove it properly.

How WebDiscover affects internet search

WebDiscover Adware Virus Remove

WebDiscover promotes Trovi and other search viruses

When WebDiscover is installed, it places its search bar at top of your screen, on the desktop. Very similar to WebBar! This is a pretty unique gimmick and some people really like it. Although, you cannot close the bar at the top of your screen without uninstalling the browser completely.

However, WebDiscover restricts the default search engine and overall just doesn’t give enough customization.

When you enter a specific website address into this WebDiscover bar, the full browser window comes up. If you try to search for queries through it, WebDiscover initially redirects you to Trovi.com, Safestsearches.com, Searchingnews.com. These sites then bring you to Bing.com, Yahoo.com, or another site.

There’s no simple way to change the search engine in WebDiscover.

It shows ads, tracks user data

Remember WebDiscover being flagged as “Adware” by antivirus scanners?

The WebDiscover browser displays intrusive advertisement banners, sponsored links, pop-ups, and opens new unwanted tabs with sponsored content. It may convert specific words of the websites you visit into hyperlinks. Clicking on them forwards you to online stores. Some people even said that WebDiscover brought them to malicious websites that infected their computers with malware.

WebDiscover also logs some browsing data from its users:

  • browsing history,
  • search queries,
  • ads clicked,
  • IP and location.

This data is valuable in personalized advertising. For your privacy’s sake, you should remove WebDiscover.

And another problem – WebDiscover, being based on Chromium, is vulnerable to all the security flaws that are in Chromium. If WebDiscover’s developers don’t continue to integrate WebDiscover with new versions of Chromium, many security bugs and compatibility issues arise that make browsing with WebDiscover unsafe and marred with technical issues.

How WebDiscover spreads

Similar to other PUPs, WebDiscover is bundled with free programs. When you download freeware from download repositories, bad things happen. Freeware is spread with “optional offers” embedded in the installers which allows all kinds of junk to sneak onto computers. uTorrent is mentioned by WebDiscover’s victims especially often.

WebDiscover is also promoted by fake updates for Adobe Flash Player, Java, Video Player Codecs, etc. Quite a few complaints online allege that WebDiscover arrived in a fake update. Fake updates are used by scammers to spread malware – they convince users that the installer is safe and, in fact, necessary when, in reality, it’s going to infect their computer.

Reasons to remove WebDiscover

We recommend removing WebDiscover. It injects ads, restricts search settings, tracks users, and may even get installed without permission.

We recommend you to use an antivirus program, like Spyhunter, Malwarebytes, and others, to find and remove all the PUPs and adware, including WebDiscover. Remove all malware and restore your PC to a better state.

Some users might have had difficulties removing WebDiscover normally. In that case, use safe mode with networking. Safe mode prevents unnecessary programs from running and it helps in removing persistent threats.
