Variance TV ads

Adware

Some people experience pop-up ads opening in their web browsers without their permission. Such a thing happening is a clear sign of an adware infection. Browsers don’t normally open tabs on their own.

These unwanted ads may be labeled with Variance TV’s name or they may be hosted on the Variance.tv website.

In addition to Variance TV, you may also see ads from Steep TV or OutFox TV. All these sites are related to each other – they’re all celebrity news-oriented video streaming platforms that use problematic advertisements.

Currently, Variance TV redirects to Iyfsearch.com which in turn is related to some alternative search engines, such as Fastquicksearch.com. The appearance of such websites is sometimes caused by a browser hijacker. In addition, Variance TV promotes Steersearch.com, a notification spammer. Such sites cause pop-up ads to be displayed in the corner of the browser.

Other ads shown by Variance TV are perfectly safe, such as advertisements for convenience stores. Still, these ads are unwanted and the adware that is causing them ought to be removed.

This is what Variance.tv looks like - ads and celebrity news.

Causes of the infection

To deliver its celebrity news, Variance TV has a Windows application, as well as an Android app. These programs are marketed as helping you stay up-to-date with celebrity and entertainment news.

Together with the Variance TV program, a browser extension may be installed. Browser extensions can change how a specific browser behaves, but they don’t affect anything outside that browser. Still, they can collect a lot of data about your web browsing habits in order to improve targeted advertising. This is not very good for privacy.

If Variance TV is present on your device, then you must have downloaded and installed it. If you didn’t do it, then it’s possible that Variance TV came bundled with another program.

Bundling is advertising inside the installer of a program – you may be familiar with optional offers. These offers are often easy to miss, so they result in unintended installations of potentially unwanted programs.

It is still possible to download Variance TV from various freeware download sites. In fact, it is better to avoid general software download sites because some of them repackage the software that they offer to include potentially unwanted software. In addition, download sites often offer very outdated software versions.
