It is categorized as ransomware because once inside of a computer, .try infection encrypts all personal files stored on the hard drive and then demands a ransom to be paid in order to provide decryption key that could unlock them. You will be asked to pay 0.05 in Bitcoins (around $500 at a current exchange rate). Even if that looks like not that much for files that are really important to you, we highly suggest not to do that. There are other, better methods to do that.

Most of the time infections like this one are distributed as attachments to spam emails and gets installed on a computer when you open those files attached to misleading emails.

We always suggest staying away from the Spam folder on your email because it can lead to consequences like this. Also, there is a chance that you will get infected with viruses of other types, such as adware or browser hijackers. If that’s not enough to keep you from that folder – keep in mind that you can get scammed there too.

.try files ransomware can be a result of other malware operating on your computer as well. Malware tends to infiltrate other viruses into the systems that are already infected. This is why you should keep your computer protected with reliable anti-malware software all the time.

Why .try Ransomware is Dangerous

We have already mentioned that .try virus will lock your personal files. It can do that by using some special cryptography that changes the structure of your files. After that, an extension “.try” will be added to the end of all of your personal files that are infected. Unfortunately, this virus can encrypt almost all file types, so all of your personal photos, videos or text documents will be definitely locked.

It’s worth to mention that .try ransomware won’t lock your systemic files, so you will be able to continue using your computer. That’s done in order to allow you to access the Internet and pay the ransom. However, that also leaves the opportunity for you to get some anti-malware tools and deal with this virus.

After the encryption process is over, your desktop picture will be changed to a new image that has the following message, which happens to be a ransom note:

This computer has been hacked
Your personal files have been ecrypted.
Send me 0.05 BTC to get decryption tool.
After that, you’ll be able to see your beloved files
again.

With love… Silenced Project <3My email : [email protected] BTC address : 1LyKtpvWs9sq6rWT4AVLTodkzdxwnQx2mV

We highly doubt that the developers of this virus made some kind of recognition system that could process the payments and automate the distribution of decryption keys. That leads to a conclusion, that you can get simply ignored after paying the ransom. Instead of that, you should scan your system with anti-malware tool and the recover your locked files.

Usually .try Files Ransomware tries to delete all possible Shadow Volume Copies, so this methods may not work on all computers. However, it may fail to do so. Shadow Volume Copies are only available with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. There are two ways to retrieve your files via Shadow Volume Copy. There are several data recovery programs that might recover encrypted files as well. This does not work in all cases but you can try this:
  • We suggest using another PC and connect the infected hard drive as slave. It is still possible to do this on infected PC though.
  • Download a data recovery program.
  • Install and scan for recently deleted files. Data Recovery Pro
Note: In many cases it is impossible to restore data files affected by modern ransomware. Thus I recommend using decent cloud backup software as precaution. We recommend checking out Carbonite, BackBlaze, CrashPlan or Mozy Home.
