Securesearch.pro Redirects - How to remove

Securesearch.pro (Secure Search Pro) is a website that redirects your search queries to My-search.com and other potentially unsafe sites. It spreads with browser add-ons and doesn’t appear to offer any useful features whatsoever.

You might have noticed Securesearch.pro, My-search.com, and other addresses appearing in your browser without your permission. If this happened, check your installed extensions – some of them must be hijacking your web search.

Securesearch.pro’s name is similar to quite a few other hijackers that we’ve cataloged: Securesearch.site, SecureSearch.co, Secureserch.com, etc. Despite their similar names, these sites are not directly related.

Search redirects to Securesearch.pro

Despite its name, Securesearch.pro does not claim to make your web search safer. Its description on the Chrome Web Store only says that it “lets you browse the web” by offering you access to a search engine.

As web browsers can already easily access search engines (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and others), Securesearch.pro seems to be extremely useless.

When Secure Search Pro is installed, it makes Securesearch.pro your default search engine. Now, when you use the address bar to type in a search query, it’s sent to Securesearch.pro.

But this site doesn’t appear to have any web search functionality. So, it redirects to My-search.com, which then forwards you to another site.

Here are some problems that this might cause:

  • Because of all the redirects, web search results take longer to appear.
  • It’s not always predictable which site will display the search results. You could even be sent to an advertisement, depending on your search query.
  • Securesearch.pro and other sites can read your search queries, which is a big privacy problem.
  • There’s a chance that some of the sites that Securesearch.pro forwards you to don’t use encryption, which is another privacy problem.

In short, Securesearch.pro is not a trustworthy website. It’s dangerous for it to have control over your internet search.

Securesearch.pro replaces your search engine.

Search hijackers get installed unexpectedly

The developers of Securesearch.pro don’t advertise themselves. But the site does sometimes forward to a few Trovi sites. Trovi is an infamous search hijacker that has been around for years. It’s related to a bunch of dubious search websites, including Astromenda, Safe Finder, and Iminent.

Checking My-search.com on a traffic analytics site, it appears to have some common traffic with sites like Tailsearch.com and Search-checker.com.

Here are a few common ways in which redirect viruses infect browsers:

  • They are embedded in the installers of various free apps. They get installed together with the app and possibly without your knowledge (Unwanted bundled software).
  • They are advertised online as useful applications.
  • They are promoted online deceptively, as apps required to install.

So, if you notice the addresses “Securesearch.pro” and “My-search.com” up in your address bar, it must be that there’s an add-on installed that’s manipulating your searches.

Do you remember installing Secure Search Pro or another mysterious extension? Maybe it was a pop-up that told you to do it? It could have been a deceptive ad.

Or did it appear out of the blue? If so, then an adware bundler might be responsible for the infection.

How to stop Securesearch.pro redirects

Open the affected browser. Remove Secure Search Pro if it’s installed. Check your other extensions and remove or disable those that are suspicious.

It’s safest to only keep installed those extensions that you use regularly. Browser add-ons have a lot of access to your data and your browser settings, so it’s best to make sure that only the most trustworthy ones are installed.

You can use an antivirus program (such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others) to scan your computer and check for suspicious programs and files.

There are a few ways in which Secure Search Pro (and other malicious extensions) are installed, but one of them involves add-ons being embedded in the installers of unrelated programs. If that happened to you, if an adware bundle was installed, then there might be some other threats on your computer that you need to remove.
