Search.searchumrz.com hijacker - How to remove

Search.searchumrz.com is rather unwanted application than a threatful computer virus. It can be considered to be either a PUP (potentially unwanted program) or a browser hijacker. We have decided to list it as a browser hijacker because it has at least several features that are common to this kind of computer viruses:

  • Search.searchumrz.com will make automatic changes on your web browser;
  • It will redirect you to other websites;
  • It can be difficult to get rid of;
  • It is distributed using deceptive methods.

Combine all those symptoms and you have malicious browser add-on listed as browser hijacker. Polarity Technologies LTD is one of the most active malware distributors at the time so it is not really a surprise that Search.searchumrz.com was developed by this company too.

If you suspect that you have this particular virus operating on your web browser, please continue reading this article. We will provide you with instructions how to remove Search.searchumrz.com from your computer and ensure that this won’t happen ever again.

Traits of Search.searchumrz.com infection

Search.searchumrz.com is a typical browser hijacker which operates as a browser add-on. As most of browser hijackers from Polarity Technologies LTD, such as Wallstreetwatch.co or Mapsnt.com virus, it is only compatible with Google Chrome web browser – other Internet browsers are not supported by this infection.

Even though it is available at Google Chrome extensions store, it is definitely not the most common method for this malware to get installed on a web browser. Add-ons from Polarity Technologies ltd most of the time are traveling bundled with other free software that can be downloaded from the web. I.e. when you install some media player or torrents client, you might be offered to add some free and beneficial tool to your web browser. Unfortunately, users tend to ignore those offers and just run through without paying much of the attention and since the installation of bundled goods usually are a default option,  Search.searchumrz.com gets installed automatically.

After the successful installation, Search.searchumrz.com will automatically make some changes on your web browser. Your new tab page will be set to be www.search.searchumrz.com. Even though browser hijackers tend to take over homepage and default search provider (such as searchprivacy.co hijacker), in this case it will only affect your new tab. And even though it looks like not a big deal, it sure will cause you a headache.

Let’s talk about the website itself. At a first glance it looks completely normal and users with lack of experience fail to recognise anything wrong with it. It was designed to look like a regular search website and the only thing that is rather unusual – additional toolbar on the top of the page.  Despite the fact that the website looks absolutely normal, there are more than enough reasons not to use it.

First of all, if you submit a search to this website, it will be redirected to Yahoo, so there is no point to use this website as a middle man between you and Yahoo. Moreover, all searches will be tracked and if you submit something that qualifies for their target audience, you might be redirected to other websites or additional advertisements might appear. Also, this add-on might transfer data about your searches to other third parties, so you are in danger of losing your private information.

The toolbar we have mentioned before is dedicated to promote other websites that are affiliated with Polarity Technologies LTD. This add-on is described as a tool that will let you to listen to radio and music online, so there you will find several links to music streaming websites as well as radio websites. Besides that, there are also links to Local Weather tool and newswire.co websites – both of them are unreliable and unwanted.

Lastly, according to the data from SimilarWeb, a lot of users are visiting website of RadioRage before installing Search.searchumrz.com, so it is more than likely that after installing RadioRage (which is also malicious, by the way), you will be offered to install Search.searchumrz.com too. However, that’s definitely not the only program that is distributing this infection.

How to fix Search.searchumrz.com problem?

You probably have already noticed that there is a button at the bottom of the page called “Restore Chrome Tab Page”.
