What ResultsAdder does

ResultsAdder is a web browser extension, an add-on to a web browser. According to its description, it adds sponsored links to internet search results. Its function is literally to inject ads into people’s browsers. The definition of adware.

The ResultsAdder browser extension has permissions to read and change your data on Google.com, Com.id, and Advancedsearchlab.com, as well as read your browsing history. This lets ResultsAdder inject data into your internet search results if you happen to use Google.com to search the internet. ResultsAdder’s links appear above all the results and ads. ResultsAdder just takes the search results page and, before letting your browser display it on your screen, pastes in a link that looks kind of like a genuine search result. That’s called ad injection.

According to ResultsAdder’s privacy policy, your IP, browsing history, and search queries are logged. The goal is to enable targeted advertising. Overall, ResultsAdder causes just a few symptoms when installed:

  • additional advertisements above internet search results,
  • ads that lead to other search result sites,
  • low-quality ads with objectionable and even harmful content, such as scams and malware.

ResultsAdder can be hard to notice, as it tries to stay under the radar. Any time you think your ads look suspicious or there are too many of them, check your browser for malware.

ResultsAdder says: "Download ready".

How ResultsAdder gets installed

ResultsAdder gets advertised by adware viruses, malicious websites, as well as websites that allow low-quality ads to be shown. Free streaming websites stand out as being a big source of ResultsAdder’s traffic. Or rather, a bit part of Advancedsearchlab.com’s traffic. ResultsAdder is promoted by dangerous ads and adware infections, which always are somewhat deceptive and misleading.

Advancedsearchlab.com is the site that tries to get people to install ResultsAdder, either by showing a fake download button or by automatically opening the relevant Chrome Web Store page. Advancedsearchlab.com also hosts ResultsAdder’s privacy policy, EULA, and other documents.

It’s not clear which company is behind ResultsAdder, but this extension is very similar to Access+, MoreResults (which has already been removed from the extension store), Value+, and a few others.

How to remove ResultsAdder

As ResultsAdder is a browser extension, it can be removed in browser settings (instructions are in the last section).

It’s also a good idea to scan your computer with an anti-malware application, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, or others. This would help check if there are any suspicious programs on your device and potentially help you avoid some future problems.

Adware invites more adware. Apps like ResultsAdder advertise is help spread browser hijackers and other malware. So, as soon as you suspect malware on your device, you should check it.

One of the ways to check for browser hijackers is to open a private (Incognito) window. This can be done in the browser’s main menu. ResultsAdder and other browser extensions are disabled in this mode and don’t show up.

Alternatively, you can open your browser extension settings and disable each extension one-by-one and check the effects. It’s a bit time consuming, but worth it to get rid of adware.
