Nppp Virus - How to remove

Nppp is a ransomware virus that’s made to extort people of their money. Nppp encrypts your files and then asks you to pay from $490 to $980 to get your files back. Files locked by Nppp have a second extension “.nppp” in their names and they have their internal data scrambled to the point of being unreadable. There’s no saying whether you can get your files back – it depends on your individual circumstances – but there is no single easy way to fix them.

Nppp is a file extension virus that can break your files:

Infection symptoms File names getting “.nppp” at the end,

files not opening,

pop-up ads,

hacked accounts.

How Nppp spreads In cracking tools, keygens, pirated files.
Fix your files Restore from a backup,

use data recovery,

use the free decrypter,

repair big broken files.

Remove Nppp Use an anti-malware scanner (Spyhunter, etc.).

Nppp infection symptoms

Nppp is a file extension virus, also called ransomware. Its most obvious symptom is the file extension “.nppp” that is appended to the names of most of your files. But that’s not all.

Were you to rename an encrypted file by removing “.nppp”, you still couldn’t open most of your files. That’s because the real changes were made inside your files. Nppp turned portions of your file content into random-looking characters.

Another problem is that Nppp may bring with it an info-stealing trojan known as Azorult, which then downloads adware viruses, displays pop-up ads, and steals your credentials saved in your browser and other online apps. This could be actually dangerous.

After it’s done encrypting your files, Nppp creates a bunch of text files – ransom notes called “_readme.txt”. If you sort your files by alphabet, these will be at the top. These files include a demand for the ransom ($490 or $980) and the email addresses to contact the criminals on,  [email protected] and [email protected].

Here’s some of the text found in these _readme notes:

ATTENTION!

Don’t worry, you can return all your files!
All your files like photos, databases, documents and other important are encrypted with strongest encryption and unique key.
The only method of recovering files is to purchase decrypt tool and unique key for you.
This software will decrypt all your encrypted files.
What guarantees you have?
You can send one of your encrypted file from your PC and we decrypt it for free.
But we can decrypt only 1 file for free. File must not contain valuable information.

Nppp does not touch your operating system files, so your Windows should work fine. However, your antivirus program may be broken. Nppp tries to delete important antivirus updates before it’s detected. And you might not be able to update that program thanks to Nppp blocking cybersecurity sites on your computer. Instructions for how to unblock them are in the section below.

Nppp ransom note text includes the sum of money that the extortionists ask for.

How to restore your files

Paying money to the extortionists is not advised. You will lose the money with no way to get it back and there is no guarantee that your files will be fixed.

If you don’t have a backup to restore your files from, make a backup of the “.nppp” files. Then look into data recovery programs that can restore deleted files. They can help you get some data back.

Try removing a file’s “.nppp” extension and opening it. Some audio files and archives may be only partially broken.

If you have some original photos that you wish to get back, check out this blog post – it might be possible to repair the photos, kind of.

Finally, check the Emsisoft decryptor. This decryptor was created for Djvu ransomware, which encompasses Nppp, Rooe, Alka, and others.

If Nppp locked your files but failed to contact the command and control server, then it may have used a hard-coded encryption key on your files, rather than a unique one. And if someone else gets the matching decryption key, it would work on your files, too. Nppp uses public-key cryptography with unique keys for each victim, so there is no hope of guessing the keys, only getting them from the extortionists.

How to remove Nppp

Here are the things you need to do:

  • Delete Nppp, other malicious programs, and the file that got you infected. You can use an anti-malware program for this, such as Spyhunter.
  • Make backups of your encrypted files if you wish to try to recover them at some point.
  • Then try to fix your files or recover your data.

Then there are the things that you don’t need to do:

  • You don’t have to delete the files that have the “.nppp” extension, as they’re not dangerous.
  • You don’t have to worry about your data being stolen. Malware can steal personal data or your files, but Nppp is not it – it just locks the files on your computer.
  • No need to reinstall Windows, unless you want to skip using an anti-malware scanner.

Important -- edit the hosts file to unblock security websites

TL DR : The hosts file is edited to block security sites Before the virus can be removed, it's necessary to fix the hosts file (the file which controls which addresses connect to which IPs). That is the reason the majority of security websites is inaccessible when infected with this particular parasite. This infection edits this file to stop certain websites, including anti-malware download sites, from being accessed from the infected computer, making browsers return the "This site can't be reached" error. Luckily, it's trivial to fix the file and remove the edits that were made to it.

Find and edit the hosts file

The hosts file can be found on C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/etc/hosts. If you don't see it, change the settings to see hidden files.
  1. In the Start Menu, search for Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, find Appearance and Personalization.
  3. Select Folder Options.
  4. Open the View tab.
  5. Open Advanced settings.
  6. Select "Show hidden files...".
  7. Select OK.
Open this file with administrator privileges. notepad run as administrator
  1. Open the Start Menu and enter "notepad".
  2. When Notepad shows up in the result, right-click on it.
  3. In the menu, choose "Run as administrator"
  4. File->Open and browse for the hosts file.
The hosts file should look like this: hosts file default contents Delete additional lines that they connect various domain names to the wrong IP address. Save the file.

Download and run the antivirus program

After that, download antivirus programs and use them to remove the ransomware, the trojan, and other malware. Spyhunter (https://www.2-viruses.com/reviews/spyhunter/dwnld/).

Step 2. Complete removal of Nppp Virus

After restoring your system, it is recommended to scan your computer with an anti-malware program, like Spyhunter and remove all malicious files related to Nppp File Extension Virus. You can check other tools here.

Step 3. Restore Nppp Virus affected files using Shadow Volume Copies

If you do not use System Restore option on your operating system, there is a chance to use shadow copy snapshots. They store copies of your files that point of time when the system restore snapshot was created. Usually Nppp File Extension Virus tries to delete all possible Shadow Volume Copies, so this methods may not work on all computers. However, it may fail to do so. Shadow Volume Copies are only available with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. There are two ways to retrieve your files via Shadow Volume Copy. You can do it using native Windows Previous Versions or via Shadow Explorer. a) Native Windows Previous Versions Right-click on an encrypted file and select PropertiesPrevious versions tab. Now you will see all available copies of that particular file and the time when it was stored in a Shadow Volume Copy. Choose the version of the file you want to retrieve and click Copy if you want to save it to some directory of your own, or Restore if you want to replace existing, encrypted file. If you want to see the content of file first, just click Open.
Previous version
b) Shadow Explorer It is a program that can be found online for free. You can download either a full or a portable version of Shadow Explorer. Open the program. On the left top corner select the drive where the file you are looking for is a stored. You will see all folders on that drive. To retrieve a whole folder, right-click on it and select “Export”. Then choose where you want it to be stored.

Step 4. Use Data Recovery programs to recover Nppp Virus encrypted files

There are several data recovery programs that might recover encrypted files as well. This does not work in all cases but you can try this:
  • We suggest using another PC and connect the infected hard drive as slave. It is still possible to do this on infected PC though.
  • Download a data recovery program.
  • Install and scan for recently deleted files. Data Recovery Pro
Note: In many cases it is impossible to restore data files affected by modern ransomware. Thus I recommend using decent cloud backup software as precaution. We recommend checking out Carbonite, BackBlaze, CrashPlan or Mozy Home.
