Search.emaileasyaccess.com - How to remove

Search.emaileasyaccess.com is a Yahoo redirect virus that hijacks one of your Web browsers and uses this power to steer you to specific websites, to show you ads, and to learn about your browsing habits to more effectively show you ads. Not to say that emaileasyaccess.com isn’t useful to some people, but it does have a few problems.

The extension is actually considered to be deceptive and unwanted. The reputation of its developer — Eightpoint — is so poor because the company is responsible for dozens, if not hundreds, of hijackers like emaileasyaccess.com — there’s Findgofind.co, search.hthereadingclub.com, search.getsports.co, any many others. Thousands of people have installed some of them and are using them every day — either because they don’t notice them, or because they don’t know how to get rid of them. Luckily, it’s very simple to do.

To be fair, emaileasyaccess.com looks somewhat better than the previous hijackers released by Eightpoint. This one actually offers a feature that allows you to personalize some links on your new tab page very easily, even though those options are extremely limited at the moment. Eightpoint even tried to comply with Google’s honest installation policies this time — probably because Google promised to ban all the extensions that didn’t.

What’s wrong with emaileasyaccess.com?

Emaileasyaccess.com is a browser add-on. This is a small application that can be added to your browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.) to change its functionality. Usually, they’re helpful, but sometimes — harmful. Add-ons are small and not independent of the browser, but they are still powerful. As long as you’re using the affected browser, some add-ons can read everything you type anywhere online. Some can change the way that websites are displayed to you, such as hiding all the ads or filling your screen with them. Some malicious browser extensions even hijack your hardware resources to mine cryptocurrency.

So, it’s important to be very careful when installing an extension and to look out for any red flags. Unfortunately, emaileasyaccess.com raises a few of those. This little application is very power-hungry: it needs to read your browsing history, manage your extensions and themes, and it tries to get you to use a specific search site regardless of which one you were using before.

Besides, it sometimes bundles other extensions which take even more control over your browser. When installed on Chrome, emaileasyaccess.com bundles HideMySearches and FastMapsDirections. These two even more strongly control what websites you can visit, redirecting you when they don’t like where you go. That’s excessive and has nothing to do with emaileasyaccess.com’s promised features of allowing you to quickly log in to your email account.

If you have installed emaileasyaccess.com in Chrome, the symptoms of the hijacking can be severe:

  • Can’t change the home or new tab page.
  • Redirected from Google, Duckduckgo, and other search websites.
  • Abundant ads in the results page make finding information unnecessarily difficult.
  • Unusual behavior when new tabs and windows are opened.
  • Redirects visible in the address bar, slowing the loading times.
  • Notification spam.

How hijackers get installed

Emaileasyaccess.com is there to make money for its developers. And since you’re not paying for the extension, another way is being used — ads. A lot of commercial companies use ads to keep their services free. Emaileasyaccess.com isn’t much of a service, but it also displays ads. You can encounter them in the search results page that emaileasyaccess.com takes you to. Compare the results you get when using emaileasyaccess.com and the ones you get on another browser: emaileasyaccess.com shows more ads. And ads pay money to be shown to you.

Emaileasyaccess.com is advertised on freeware-distributing websites, like Filehippo, Softonic, and Download.com. Since people go there to download and install some free software (though I recommend using the original source when possible), hijackers advertise there, too, sometimes making the ads look like a download button, undoubtedly resulting in someone installing a new browser add-on accidentally.

Being included in bundles is also a well-known way for hijackers to spread. Be careful when installing freeware — you might have encountered the “optional” offers that are consented to on your behalf by default. If you found a bunch of browser plugins that you never installed, bundles might be how they got there.
