Email Helper App Search Redirect - How to remove

Email Helper App is a browser extension that some might have installed and not even know it. This browser add-on is not exactly an innocent email-themed enhancement to your browser — it also works as a search redirect virus, forcing users to go to Yahoo when they search for something.

Email Helper App looks different on different browsers, or it might not manifest at all while still being installed. On Chrome, it shows an icon next to the search bar — a little gray envelope. In Internet Explorer, the address search.emailhelperapptab.com might be set as your home page.

While installed, the extension changes your search settings and doesn’t allow you to change them. It can also read your browsing history and search queries, as well as see what other browser extensions you have.

Email Helper App is developed by Eightpoint Technologies, a company that has already released tons of browser hijackers, including Email Assistant and Email Easy Access, and is likewise considered to be potentially unwanted.

Email Helper App is just another useless browser extension that tries to control how you search the web:

How Email Helper App gets installed

This add-on on modern browsers can provide quick access to a few email providers — it immediately opens a new login window if you type “email” into the address bar. Obviously, most people have no need for this type of extension when they can just pin the needed site to their new tab page. Email Helper App is a bit useless.

However, most Email Helper App users did not install it themselves. Instead, they got it bundled with other browser hijackers, such as My Obituaries App, which, also being mostly useless, spread using misleading and deceptive ads, as well as adware.

By the way, bundling is when a potentially unwanted program tags along with another, main application. For example, you could download a free PDF manager, install it, and find a random driver utility on your computer, or maybe discover that your main browser’s homepage has changed. This would mean that some additional programs were installed by the hypothetical PDF manager’s installer in the background.

This looks a little different for browser hijackers like Email Helper App. When you install the bundler extension, it opens a new browser window, possibly in full-screen or without a back button. In that window, the option to install Email Helper App is presented without an option to refuse. You could just close the window — both at once press the buttons Alt and F4 on Windows, or Cmd and W on mac OS. Nevertheless, many people end up installing this extension — so far, it’s almost ten thousand.

Problems with Email Helper App

The add-on is nothing special. All it does is try to get you to use the search engine “search.emilhelperapptab.com”. This address redirects to Yahoo but the ad revenue displayed in the results will make money to Email Helper App’s developers.

And Yahoo through Email Helper App shows so many ads, many of them not even labeled! Or maybe it’s just normal content that looks and acts like advertisements. This isn’t the end of the world, but it’s a small way that might suck out some of the fun in your browsing. If not for Email Helper App, you could set any search engine as your default one — there are many out there to choose from. But as long as the extension is installed, that won’t be happening.

By the way, on IE, Email Helper App doesn’t even look complete and looks like a totally stripped-down version of all the other hijackers, such as Easy DIY Pro. No quicklinks, nothing but a search tab.

If you are wondering how to remove Email Helper App from your browser, it should be very simple. In Chrome or Firefox, just right-click the icon of the unwanted extension and choose the “Remove” option. In Internet Explorer, Email Helper App doesn’t show up in your list of extensions so you’ll need to uninstall using the Control Panel. Or you could use an anti-malware program, which could incidentally check if your computer has any malware on it. Like I said earlier, adware viruses can be used to spread search hijackers like Email Helper App. We usually recommend SpyHunter for Windows and Combo Cleaner for MacOS, but any competent security program would work.
