What does Easy News Now do?

Easy News Now is a browser extension – a mini-program that gets installed on your browser and adds features or changes settings.

In the case of Easy News Now, it displays advertisements on your screen, shows surveys, and redirects to unexpected sites. It also displays a banner on almost every site that covers up the content of those sites if it isn’t closed. Very annoying and not helpful at all.

In theory, Easy News Now is supposed to deliver breaking news in a few different categories. It does also do this and if you visit the Easy News Now website – Easynewsnow.com – it shows various topical news articles just as you would expect.

Still, Easy News Now is also interfering with your web searches, opening unwanted sites, and injecting advertisements.

On the Chrome web store, the site where the Easy News Now extension can be installed, there is only a handful of reviews for Easy News Now, but they’re all very negative. Their writers say that they didn’t mean to install the extension and that it causes redirects and is hard to get rid of.

Collect information about users

Easy News Now collects information about your location, some technical data, and also which websites you visit and which ads you click on.

According to Easy News Now’s privacy policy, this information may be used for advertising purposes.

We may share your Information with third party advertising networks and advertisers to help deliver Third Party Ads to you and to improve the relevancy of such Third Party Ads.

To be fair, Easy News Now does warn in its description that it’s supported by “promotions and deals presented to you”. Still, it’s easy to miss, and the ads leading to the web store don’t make this disclaimer very visible.

This sort of thing can also be a little dangerous. If your browsing history is sold to some data company, it may reveal things that are private to people who have no right to know them.

How to remove Easy News Now

Avoid browser hijackers

Before installing a browser extension, you should consider if you can trust it. Easy News Now has a few red flags that make it suspicious:

  • Over a hundred thousand users but very few reviews. Considering that some of the reviewers mentioned that they didn’t intentionally install Easy News Now, it’s possible that many “users” of the extension are still unaware.
  • Permission to read and change your data on all the websites you visit. This very powerful permission allows browser extensions to see and change the content of all the webpages that you open, such as what you’re typing in a password field. Be very careful of extensions that ask for this, especially when they do not even explain why they ask for certain permissions.
  • Its privacy policy. It is always wise to skim through the privacy policy of each extension that you wish to install and see what information is collected and what it can be used for. Easy News Now collects data about your browsing history and your interactions with advertisements – it is all laid out in its privacy policy.

Of course, there’s nothing you can do if Easy News Now sneaks in uninvited. In that case, though, make sure to check your computer for other malware that might have also infected your device.

For instance, CouponRockstar, GlobalMovieSearch, PackTrackPlus, and other add-ons are similar to Easy News Now and they spread in similar ways.
