Coupons Flash - How to remove

Coupons Flash, CouponsFlash, or Couponsflash.co — this is a browser add-on that promises to help users access the latest coupons and deals on your new tab page. Besides that, Coupons Flash talks about a vague web search feature which, as you find out later, is just a search bar that takes the queries to the Yahoo search engine. So, Coupons Flash is a browser extension that acts like a search hijacker and adware.

While there is nothing immediately dangerous to using Coupons Flash on your browser, there is some merit to it being classified as a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). This add-on reads your browsing history, tries to get you to use a specific search engine, and does not offer useful features that would make Coupons Flash worth using. This add-on is similar to GetCouponsFast, CouponTabSearch, and other new tab replacers.

Coupons Flash features

Coupons Flash offers to help you find coupons and offers that you could use to save money on online purchases. You might think that this add-on uses some sophisticated technology to scan the web and find coupons for you, but Coupons Flash is much simpler: it collects a dozen of links to Coupon-themed websites and pin them on a page, then sets that page as your new tab.

All you get from Coupons Flash is a list of links, you still have to browse the coupons yourself — hardly any time is saved. Meanwhile, a search bar in the middle of the page redirects you to the Yahoo search site which is infamous for hijacking people’s browsers.

Yahoo is distributed by possibly hundreds of browser extensions, including Coupons Flash, and having a search bar connected to Yahoo, MyWay, or some other search engine unexpectedly appear on your new tab page is a reliable sign that you’ve had a browser hijacker installed. However, that does not mean that these search sites are dangerous in any way. It’s true that they profit from showing you ads, but most commercial websites do.

Coupons Flash tries to obey ethical installation guidelines by Google Chrome, the browser that it’s created for, by admitting that they present additional offers during the installation process. The developers of this add-on also don’t hide the URL of the Web Store page and open it in a new page instead of a tiny window. A while ago, Chrome threatened to ban all extensions whose home page used deception, and a lot of browser hijackers actually were banned. Web browsers are locked in a constant battle against deceptive promotion and malicious add-ons.

While some people do install Couponsflash.co voluntarily, hijackers spread by bundlers quite a lot. This means that just downloading and installing some programs downloaded from freeware-distributing sites could result in a few unfamiliar web add-ons being attached to your browser. This sort of distribution is commonly used by potentially unwanted programs.

How to deal with Coupons Flash

You might just want to scan your computer with Spyhunter (PC), or Combo-Cleaner (Mac), especially if this isn’t the first time that your browser has been hijacked. It’s possible that some bundlers keep delivering hijackers to your system, and you don’t have to remove them, but it would be useful to identify them. That way, you know where you accidentally downloaded Coupons Flash and other hijackers from.

If you have Chrome extensions that you’re unhappy with, there are instructions below. Getting rid of just Coupons Flash might not work if other add-ons are installed, so check the complete list of your extensions. Only leave installed those that you actually trust. After all, browser add-ons have close access to your browser, which gives them incredible power over your browsing and your private data, and there are many extensions that are more dangerous and harmful to Coupons Flash.

Removing extensions sometimes doesn’t work, for example, thy might get reinstalled. In that case, make sure to perform an automatic scan with some anti-malware program and see if any serious program is found to be suspicious. Stop it from running, remove it, and try uninstalling unwanted extensions again.
