365Stream (connected to 365-stream.com) is a browser extension that changes the search engine settings. 365Stream sets Feed.365-stream.com as the new search engine, which actually just opens Yahoo.com. What is 365Stream
365-stream.com is a simple video search site that, instead of hosting its own videos, links to other video hosting sites, such as Dailymotion. Its popularity is waning, but the 365Stream browser hijacker remains relatively popular. It was a problem three years ago and it is still a problem today. 365Stream is not related to the 365.stream website.
365Stream the browser extension is a Webcoapps product. It’s very similar to the other hijackers by the same company: Wowsearch, SearchAize, Combo Search, and others. These extensions hijack your browser settings and force your search queries to go to Yahoo.com.
A browser extension is a small program that changes and adds functionality to your browser. They’re supposed to be helpful tools to enhance your browsing experience, but some malicious actors do use them for evil. 365Stream enhances nothing, only restricts your browser settings. Its goal is to control your web searches and spy on your browsing, that’s it.
When installing 365Stream, you are presented with a list of permissions that it needs to work:
- read and change your data on 365-stream.com,
- read your browsing history,
- change your search settings to Feed.365-stream.com (which goes to Yahoo.com).
It’s not like Yahoo is a bad search engine, it’s not. But you should be in control of that setting. You should decide which search engine you wish to use. Not a random browser hijacker like 365Stream. But if you try to fix your search settings right away, it won’t work because 365Stream needs to be removed first.
How to remove 365Stream
365Stream can be detected by various antivirus programs, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others. It can be uninstalled manually like any other browser extension: by going into browser settings, opening the extensions/add-ons section, selecting 365Stream, and clicking the remove button.
However, some people have had difficulties removing 365Stream. For them, 365Stream would come back hours after being deleted. That’s why it’s important to scan your computer for additional malicious files and programs. Some of them could be responsible for preventing 365Stream from being removed.
You can also use ad-blockers and anti-malware programs to block 365-stream.com. However, if 365Stream keeps redirecting your browser to it, this will only cause more inconveniences.
Adware installation
365Stream gets advertised online by deceptive webpages, such as the Recommended Extension ad. The Recommended Extension format gets used often to promote various browser hijackers. It is made to look like a real and authoritative warning. It shows up on illegitimate video streaming sites, mostly.
Besides deceptive ads, 365Stream can come bundled with other apps and programs. Bundled extensions and apps get installed in the background and you might not even know about them.
Once 365Stream is installed, it is sneaky enough, nearly invisible. All it does is redirect your searches and make money off of the ads that you see. This is good for 365Stream, of course. The longer it remains installed, the more money it makes.
In addition, 365Stream can be installed together with Vista Search, Easy PDF, and other Webcoapps hijackers. They often spread together or link to each other. Because all these hijackers do the same thing (take over your searches), only the one that was installed last has an effect. But if you remove it, the one installed before it takes over. That’s why it’s best to check your computer thoroughly and remove all the hijackers at once.
