UK to give funding for the fight against crimes on the dark web

Dark web might be very unfamiliar to people who are used to scrolling the news feed of Facebook while also enjoying coffee and eating breakfast before work. The deepest places of the Internet are not for the light-hearted people. The majority of the Internet surfers have no interest of ordering illegal goods or buying ransomware-as-a-service projects. While they might be intrigued by the concept of the dark web, they might be too afraid to enter this rabbit hole as people have reported unpleasant consequences of such visits.

We have spoken about the mysteries of the dark web, and the content distributed in such anonymous websites. For instance, on the dark web, cyber criminals can purchase users’ personal information, or might buy ATM malware called the Cutlet Maker. However, a lot of the dark web is yet to be explored, and many of the active visitors of this part of the web are left unpunished.

9 million euros for the fight against criminals on the dark web

UK will fight dark web

According to BBC news, Amber Rudd has announced that more funding is going to be given for the objective of fighting the cyber-crimes, taking place in the dark web. This hidden layer of the Internet, only accessible through a special browser, is a place where many illegal transactions take place.

If cyber criminals are not selling computer viruses, they are offering drugs, hitman services or recipes for how human meat should be cooked. This type of content is no surprise for regular dark web visitors, but can trigger different emotions for those who have nothing to do with this mysterious layer of the web.

Rudd announced this change during a conference in Manchester, organized by the National Cyber Security Centre. She stated that 9 million euros will be used in order to enhance responses to the crimes, committed on the dark web.

The goal is to clean up the dark web

The mission is to clean up the dark web and make it less of a dangerous place where anonymity encourages people to break the law. With the given money, law enforcement agencies will attempt to track down cyber criminals and bring them to justice. Additionally, police officers are going to be trained for the purpose of being able to investigate cyber-crimes better.

You might be surprised to hear that the Dark web is not only used for illegal activities. It is stated that criminal actions on the dark web receive more coverage than the good. For instance, some people are using TOR browser for the purpose of keeping advertising networks away from their personal information and browsing activities. Some researchers even explained that a more anonymous browsing experience poses a threat to such giant companies like Google and Facebook.
