V6cye Ransomware - How to remove

V6cye is a nasty computer virus that can cause a lot of damage. If you are reading this article, there is a chance that your computer is infected with V5cye virus. In case that is true, your computer is completely paralyzed and you need are forced to pay the ransom in order to retrieve locked files.

The technology used by V6cye ransomware to encrypt your personal files is really complicated – it’s a military-grade encryption algorithm that will change the structure of your files, so you won’t be able to open them. Luckily, that doesn’t mean that those encrypted files are ruined forever. Even though the structure is changed and currently those files are unavailable for you to use, that encryption process can be reversed, which would make files good to go once again.

There are two ways you can solve the problem and reverse the process – cyber criminals that created V6cye ransomware are offering you a “solution”. They will ask you to pay a ransom and in exchange, you will receive a decryption key that will unlock your personal files. An alternative solution to this problem is to remove V6cye virus from your computer and then use other methods to restore locked files.

Obviously, it’s up to you which path to go, but we highly recommend not to deal with crooks – you can never trust them. If you have decided to eliminate V6cye and restore files from a backup or use file restore tool, please stick with us. In this article, we will teach you how to do that and increase the protection level of your system in order to ensure that this won’t happen ever again.

How V6cye Encrypts Files

V6cye Ransomware removal

So in order to cause actual harm, V6cye needs to get inside of your computer first. Most common case scenario is the ransomware coming attached to some kind of email. Cyber criminals send an enormous amount of emails. Obviously, most of them end up in the spam folder, but there are still some people that open them and download attached files. Usually, they are hidden under the fake image of PDF or .txt document. If you download such file, V6cye will automatically be installed on your computer.

Immediately after that, it will start scanning your system for files that can be encrypted. Sadly, V6cye can encrypt all kinds of files – text documents, audio and video files, photos and so on. That means almost all of your personal files will be locked. On the other hand, V6cye virus won’t touch files from the system folder, so you will be able to continue using Windows. This trait is similar among other infamous ransomware infections, such as Access virus, Acuf2 ransomware, or Bopador ransomware.

After the encryption, “RESTORE_V6CYE_FILES.txt” file will be placed on the desktop. It is a ransom note and it calls like this:

Hello! Your all your files are encrypted and only I can decrypt them.
my mail is

[email protected]

Write me if you want to return your files – I can do it very quickly!
In the letter you must specify the extension of the encrypted files.

Attention!
Do not rename encrypted files.
You may lose your files permanently.
You may be a victim of fraud.

To prove that I can recover your files, I am ready to decrypt any three files for free (except databases, Excel and backups)

hurry up!

All files encrypted by V6cye will be marked with .v6cye extension, that’s where the name of the virus comes from. We do not recommend to follow their instructions. It’s not known how much you will be asked to pay, it can be anything inbetween $150 – $1000. Instead of that, you should eliminate V6cye Ransomware and restore locked files.

How To Get Rid of V6cye Ransomware

V6cye Ransomware can be easily deleted with the help of professional anti-malware programs, such as Spyhunter. Either one of those tools should be able to immediately detect and eliminate the virus.

However, removing the virus itself won’t solve the problem. In addition to that, you will have to restore your files. Step 3. Restore V6cye Ransomware affected files using Shadow Volume Copies

If you do not use System Restore option on your operating system, there is a chance to use shadow copy snapshots. They store copies of your files that point of time when the system restore snapshot was created. Usually V6cye Ransomware tries to delete all possible Shadow Volume Copies, so this methods may not work on all computers. However, it may fail to do so. Shadow Volume Copies are only available with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. There are two ways to retrieve your files via Shadow Volume Copy. You can do it using native Windows Previous Versions or via Shadow Explorer. a) Native Windows Previous Versions Right-click on an encrypted file and select PropertiesPrevious versions tab. Now you will see all available copies of that particular file and the time when it was stored in a Shadow Volume Copy. Choose the version of the file you want to retrieve and click Copy if you want to save it to some directory of your own, or Restore if you want to replace existing, encrypted file. If you want to see the content of file first, just click Open.

b) Shadow Explorer It is a program that can be found online for free. You can download either a full or a portable version of Shadow Explorer. Open the program. On the left top corner select the drive where the file you are looking for is a stored. You will see all folders on that drive. To retrieve a whole folder, right-click on it and select “Export”. Then choose where you want it to be stored.

Step 4. Use Data Recovery programs to recover V6cye Ransomware encrypted files

There are several data recovery programs that might recover encrypted files as well. This does not work in all cases but you can try this:
  • We suggest using another PC and connect the infected hard drive as slave. It is still possible to do this on infected PC though.
  • Download a data recovery program.
  • Install and scan for recently deleted files. Data Recovery Pro
Note: In many cases it is impossible to restore data files affected by modern ransomware. Thus I recommend using decent cloud backup software as precaution. We recommend checking out Carbonite, BackBlaze, CrashPlan or Mozy Home.
