This infection works as browser add-on that can be added to all most common web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer or even Safari. That means Apple users can get infected as well.

We don’t recommend to click on ads displayed by Targetop because if you do so, you will be immediately redirected to other websites that might be owned by various cyber criminals, such as hackers or scammers. This way your computer can get infected with other viruses or if you attempt to purchase something there you can even get scammed or lose your hard earned money this way.

Targetop is like advertising network for cyber criminals. Since they are banned from all legitimate advertising networks like Google or Facebook ads, they use adware like this to promote their websites and drive some traffic to them. This being said, if you keep Targetop installed on your computer, various hackers and scammers will be able to reach you right on your web browsers on a daily basis and that’s very dangerous.

Distribution Methods of Targetop adware

This malware might enter your computer when you download and install some freeware. It’s a common distribution method for malware, so basically every time you download and install some PDF generator or downloads manager from unreliable website, there is a chance that Targetop or similar malware will be downloaded and installed alongside without you even being aware of that. That’s why you should always pay close attention to the installation process of freeware and keep your computer secured with trustworthy anti-malware application all the time.
