RumbleCrypt Ransomware - How to remove

RumbleCrypt Ransomware

RumbleCrypt ransomware is one of the latest ransomware threats released. This virus, as the majority of elaborate ransomware viruses, uses the asymmetric encryption algorithm to encrypt the victim’s data. The key, which can unlock the victim’s files is buried deeply into the servers controlled by the developers of RumbleCrypt. They refuse to give it to you, unless you pay them. This is a typical scenario which befalls on the users affected by ransomware viruses. But it is, as well, the worst case scenario which can befall on you, if you are that victim affected.

About RumbleCrypt Ransomware

As it has been revealed, RumbleCrypt cryptomalware uses asymmetric encryption algorithm (just like Cryakl ransomware, etc.) to encrypt the files. This means that the two keys are generated during encryption. One key is the public key, which encrypts the data. And the other key is the private key and this key decrypts the data. The latter key is the golden calf for the cyber crooks. Though, it is currently unknown what amount of money is demanded from the victims by these cyber criminals, there is no doubt that it will have to be transferred in bitcoins, a virtual currency which is used in a payment system not disclosing the parties to the transaction. A perfect tool leaving no fingerprints, indeed.

The data targeted by RumbleCrypt file-encrypting virus is not specific. It encompasses various file formats: .txt, .pdf, .ppt, .xls, .jpeg, .mp3, .avi, etc. As you can see, text, image, music and video files can be corrupted. 2 weeks are given for the victim to retrieve the encrypted data by paying the ransom. The hackers behind RumbleCrypt virus makes a promise that the victim will never be infected again since they store certain identifiers on their servers to prevent this from ever occurring again. If the victim has any questions or experiences any difficulties regarding the payment, the contact e-mail is provided – [email protected]. However, we highly suggest not to contact these people and, especially, not to make any transactions.

How is RumbleCrypt Ransomware Spread?

Those, you have ever had a rendezvous with a ransomware, will not be surprised to hear that RumbleCrypt virus is a trojan virus. The Trojan Horse in a tale of ransomware is a spam e-mail sent to the unsuspecting victim. This e-mail is not wooden, nor it hides warriors inside it. But it can be disguised as an official document, such as an invoice, and contain malicious links or attachments or both. Thus, you cannot click on those links or open those attachments, since, as soon as you have done this, the malicious script of the ransomware will glide down on your computer’s system like some warrior out of the wooden horse on the land of Troy. This is not the end of the tale. There is another means RumbleCrypt crypto-malware can jump on your PC. This is also a secretive tactics employed by malignant programs, known as exploits. This is the software which is designed to detect software vulnerabilities and download the malicious codes of ransomware onto the operating systems. Typically, this happens when a user visits such suspicious sites as porno ones, free gaming or gambling platforms, clicks on questionable advertisements, etc.

How to Decrypt Files Encrypted by RumbleCrypt Ransomware?

There are no decryption tools for RumbleCrypt crypto malware developed yet. We are sorry. In addition to that, it deletes Shadow Volume Copies. So, basically, you have two main options left: using backup or professional data recovery tools (e.g. R-Studio, Recuva, Photorec, the software by Kaspersky, etc.). Back up your data in the future. Do it as a security precaution. The first step to be taken, though, is the removal of the malware (after you have taken the image of the infected drive to be used on the future decryptor). We recommend applying automatic tools such as Spyhunter or Hitman. These scanners are like telescopes, which observe the whole of your computer’s system. So they easily detect malware threats, as well as eliminate them. The guide for the manual removal of RumbleCrypt ransomware is located below.

After restoring your system, it is recommended to scan your computer with an anti-malware program, like Spyhunter and remove all malicious files related to RumbleCrypt Ransomware. You can check other tools here.

Step 3. Restore RumbleCrypt Ransomware affected files using Shadow Volume Copies

If you do not use System Restore option on your operating system, there is a chance to use shadow copy snapshots. They store copies of your files that point of time when the system restore snapshot was created. Usually RumbleCrypt Ransomware tries to delete all possible Shadow Volume Copies, so this methods may not work on all computers. However, it may fail to do so. Shadow Volume Copies are only available with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. There are two ways to retrieve your files via Shadow Volume Copy. You can do it using native Windows Previous Versions or via Shadow Explorer. a) Native Windows Previous Versions Right-click on an encrypted file and select PropertiesPrevious versions tab. Now you will see all available copies of that particular file and the time when it was stored in a Shadow Volume Copy. Choose the version of the file you want to retrieve and click Copy if you want to save it to some directory of your own, or Restore if you want to replace existing, encrypted file. If you want to see the content of file first, just click Open.

b) Shadow Explorer It is a program that can be found online for free. You can download either a full or a portable version of Shadow Explorer. Open the program. On the left top corner select the drive where the file you are looking for is a stored. You will see all folders on that drive. To retrieve a whole folder, right-click on it and select “Export”. Then choose where you want it to be stored.

Step 4. Use Data Recovery programs to recover RumbleCrypt Ransomware encrypted files

There are several data recovery programs that might recover encrypted files as well. This does not work in all cases but you can try this:
  • We suggest using another PC and connect the infected hard drive as slave. It is still possible to do this on infected PC though.
  • Download a data recovery program.
  • Install and scan for recently deleted files. Data Recovery Pro
Note: In many cases it is impossible to restore data files affected by modern ransomware. Thus I recommend using decent cloud backup software as precaution. We recommend checking out Carbonite, BackBlaze, CrashPlan or Mozy Home.
