Rimod trojan (aka Trojan:Win32/Rimod ) is a group of PC parasites that perform specific actions to ones PC. All parasites from this group modify PC security settings to disable or minimize protection and limit the possibility of detection and removal. This makes these trojans quite dangerous and such parasites should be removed from ones PC. The name Rimod is used by Microsoft security programs, and other security programs might label them differently.
Infections like Rimod use various disguises to infect PCs. Exploit pages might be used, so does spam mail attachment or various “updates”,”freewares” and other programs from unreliable sources. The main goal of Rimod trojan is to take control of ones PC and additional infections might be installed too.
Rimod trojans can disable system restore, “authorize” other malicious programs, disable firewall, security center notifications and PC auditing / repair programs like task manager or registry editor. If last 2 programs does not work on administrator account, it is sure sign your PC is infected (though it might be a different parasite than Rimod) and you have to scan your PC with anti-malware program.
Your PC might be fine as long as your antivirus detected Rimod infection during its instalation. If this parasite is detected during scheduled scan or it is detected couple times in a row, you should get concerned. This would mean that you got more than a single infection and need different antivirus or Anti-malware program to clean up your PC. Scan with Hitman Pro or Spyhunter and remove Rimod and related malware.
For enabling registry tools, that are required for fixing Rimods leftovers, do following.
reg.exe add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
reg.exe add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
