Hot Search Toolbar - How to remove

Hot Search Toolbar

Hot Search Toolbar is a browser hijacker that is installed to computers together with other programs that you can get from the Internet for free. The program doesn’t allow your browser to operate properly and disturbs your work on computer very badly. It is not considered to be a malware application but it is definitely an unwanted program.

Hot Search Toolbar makes some changes in your browser so it could perform its activity on your computer. The main purpose of this program is to promote certain websites, therefore it constantly redirects you to unknown web pages and even changes your homepage as well as your default search engine, for example, to hotsearch.com. Hot Search Toolbar also modifies your search results and adds many sponsored websites. The worst part is that it can track your browsing activity and send this information to the remote server. Beware that it can reveal your passwords and other sensitive information that can pose a risk to your security.

In order to remove Hot Search Toolbar go to Control Panel -> Add and Remove programs list and uninstall it from there. You should also check browser extensions for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. If you do not see Hot Search Toolbar listed, you should use antimalware tools like Spyhunter and scan your computer with it. Uninstalling the program from your computer doesn’t change your search providers, it only stops ads appearing on your computer. You will have to do it manually by yourself. Depending on the browser you are using, follow the instructions below:

On Internet explorer:

  1. Click arrow on the right of search box.
  2. Do the following: on IE8-9 choose Manage Search Providers, on IE7 click Change Search Defaults.
  3. Remove Hot Search Toolbar from the list.

On Firefox :

  1. Enter “about:config” in url bar. This will open settings page.
  2. Type “Keyword.url” in the search box. Right click it & reset it.
  3. Type “browser.search.defaultengine” in the search box. Right click it & reset it.
  4. Type “browser.search.selectedengine” in the search box. Right click it & reset it.
  5. Search for “browser.newtab.url”. Right-click and reset. This will make sure that the search page won’t launch on each new tab.

On Google Chrome:

  1. Click 3 horizontal lines icon on browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Basics ->Manage Search engines.
  4. Remove unnecessary search engines from list.
  5. Go back to Settings. On Startup choose Open blank page ( you can remove undesired pages from the set pages link too).

Please note that more than one adware and/or browser hijacker might have been installed to your computer therefore if a manual uninstall of Hot Search Toolbar did not eliminate the problem you should scan your computer using Spyhunter.
