About GreatDealz adware

Excessive ads in the browser

There are a few activities undertaken by GreatDealz that cause it to be branded adware:

  • Rather than presenting deals in a searchable, user-friendly way, GreatDealz injects its own ads in various websites. These ads are injected in your browser, locally, by GreatDealz and often cover up the real content of those pages, making browsing a bit more annoying.
  • GreatDealz uses its access to your browser to read browsing history and uses that information to present personalized ads.

GreatDealz is a typical adware application – once installed on your computer it will display various advertisements in one or all of your web browsers. Those ads can come in all kinds of different forms, such as pop-up, pop-under, in-text, and others. Even more annoying – the browser might be forced to open new tabs with promoted websites.

Dangerous ads by GreatDealz

When the ads are low-quality, GreatDealz might even be abused to expose you to fraud and coupon scams. This ad-supported program might not mean to hurt users, but the end result speaks for itself: pop-ups, banners, floating ads that are labeled as “Powered by GreatDealz” and “Ads by GreatDealz” – this extension definitely looks like adware.

Ads displayed by GreatDealz usually appear on e-commerce websites, such as eBay or Amazon. You will be offered to purchase some goods or services at a very appealing rate. However, a lot of the ads tend to be misleading, which at best, wastes your time, at worst – causes your data to be stolen or exposes you to fraud. Don’t underestimate the harm that might come to those who are exposed to malicious advertisements:

  • Tech support scams
  • Get-rich-quick schemes
  • Fake giveaways
  • Fake login pages that steal credentials

The above types of malvertising can and do cause financial harm to victims and they spread through adware.

How GreatDealz gets installed

GreatDealz and other adware viruses, like Free-coupons.network, Zoomify, IntelliTerm, and others might get installed normally, or they might use deception to infiltrate computers of unsuspecting users.

GreatDealz might sneak into your system when you download and install some freeware from the Internet – it is bundled with it. If you want to avoid infections through bundles, you should always be extremely careful during the installation of freeware. It would also be wise to keep your computer secured with reliable anti-malware software all the time.

Another way that GreatDealz gets installed is by being advertised, either using legitimate ads, or adware. Be careful before installing anything, do not risk your computer’s privacy and wellbeing and make sure that the extension you are interested in is safe. GreatDealz and other adware infections tend to have a bad reputation online, no detailed reviews, excessive permissions, the developer – obscure.
