Everbe Virus - How to remove

Everbe Virus is a serious ransomware infection – it can lock (encrypt) files stored on your computer and then cause other types of damage. It employs extremely strong (military level) AES encryption algorithm, so it’s nearly impossible to decrypt those files touched by Everbe.

However, this situation isn’t exactly a dead end. There are some things that you actually can do – there is a hope to save your personal files after you remove the virus and apply some of the methods that are used to restore encrypted files.

By the end of this article, you will be provided with detailed instructions on how to remove the Everbe infection from your computer and give the best shot at restoring files that are currently encrypted. Also, we will inform you about technical features of Everbe, so you will be able to increase the overall security level of your computer and avoid infections like this in the future.

Technical details of Everbe

Operation of Everbe ransomware can be divided into 3 main phases:

  • The payload of the virus is distributed via the Internet in order to remotely infect computers;
  • Files on infected computers are encrypted using strong AE cryptography;
  • The virus demands a ransom to be paid in order to send decryptor that can be used to decrypt files.

We have already mentioned that Everbe employs very strong cryptography cryptography that is extremely hard to decrypt. It also adds unique “.[[email protected]].everbe” extension to the end of encrypted files. After this, it is no longer possible to open them.

After that is done, Everbe will force you to pay the ransom. Before that, you will be asked to contact them via email [email protected]. That is a common technique used by many ransomware infections, such as PedCont or Rebus.

It is also believed that malicious files of Everbe ransomware uploaded by its payload are targeted not only to locking your personal files, but also performing other malicious actions. For instance, shadow copies that usually are used to restore files after something bad happen to them (they are encrypted, for example), and Everbe ransomware runs a command to remove them.

Also, the virus might implement other malicious files into your system, so infection with this ransomware can result in multiple viruses landing on your system. It can also block, so before deciding to use a specific application that should fight against Everbe, make sure that it will be able to run on your infected system.

Main threats of Everbe virus

Obviously, the main problem regarding this infection is that you won’t be able to use your files. You won’t necessarily lose your money because the decision whether to pay the ransom or not is completely up to you. In fact, we do not recommend to do that – there are no guarantees that your files will be unlocked even if you do pay the ransom.

This ransomware is related to two lately discovered ransomware infections – Embrace and PainLocker. Both of them use the same scheme to make money. Immediately after the encryption, a custom file named “!=How_recovery_files=!.txt” will be placed right on your desktop. It is a ransom note that informs what you should do next:

Hi !
If you want restore your files write on email – [email protected]
In the subject write – id-3003${CODE}
Do not try to recover data, it’s wasting your time.
Every 7 days the price doubles.

It is not clear how much you will be asked to pay, but whatever the number is – do not do that. Even if you really need your files back, go for alternative methods that can help you to decrypt or restore them.

How Everbe is distributed

In order to infect a computer, the virus has to drop the payload to a system. Those files usually are distributed as an attachment to email letters or other software.

That’s why you shouldn’t open emails from Spam folder and be very careful about free software that you download from the Internet. The problem is that most of the time users can’t even tell that there is a malicious attachment, thus they can’t identify possible problems. To solve this problem, we recommend keeping your computer secured with reliable anti-malware application all the time. Most of those programs have real-time protection feature, thus they will be able to stop the virus on the go. If you don’t have such application yet, feel free to take a look at our reviews section and select application that fits your needs the best.

How to deal with Everbe virus

There are two things that you have to do to completely solve this problem – remove the virus itself and then restore your files. Those two actions go alongside because one will be not effective without the other.

To remove Everbe, you should scan your system with Spyhunter. Either one of those programs should effectively detect and remove the virus from the computer instantly.

Now, to unlock files with .[[email protected]].everbe extension, you need to restore them from a backup or use some file recovery tools. If you do not have a valid backup that was made before the infection, you won’t be able to perform a restore, so the only option is to use recovery tool, even thoguh we can’t guarantee that it will work. You can find many free file recovery tools online.

Step 2. Complete removal of Everbe Virus

After restoring your system, it is recommended to scan your computer with an anti-malware program, like Spyhunter and remove all malicious files related to Everbe Virus. You can check other tools here.

Step 3. Restore Everbe Virus affected files using Shadow Volume Copies

If you do not use System Restore option on your operating system, there is a chance to use shadow copy snapshots. They store copies of your files that point of time when the system restore snapshot was created. Usually Everbe Virus tries to delete all possible Shadow Volume Copies, so this methods may not work on all computers. However, it may fail to do so. Shadow Volume Copies are only available with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. There are two ways to retrieve your files via Shadow Volume Copy. You can do it using native Windows Previous Versions or via Shadow Explorer. a) Native Windows Previous Versions Right-click on an encrypted file and select PropertiesPrevious versions tab. Now you will see all available copies of that particular file and the time when it was stored in a Shadow Volume Copy. Choose the version of the file you want to retrieve and click Copy if you want to save it to some directory of your own, or Restore if you want to replace existing, encrypted file. If you want to see the content of file first, just click Open.
Previous version
b) Shadow Explorer It is a program that can be found online for free. You can download either a full or a portable version of Shadow Explorer. Open the program. On the left top corner select the drive where the file you are looking for is a stored. You will see all folders on that drive. To retrieve a whole folder, right-click on it and select “Export”. Then choose where you want it to be stored.

Step 4. Use Data Recovery programs to recover Everbe Virus encrypted files

There are several data recovery programs that might recover encrypted files as well. This does not work in all cases but you can try this:
  • We suggest using another PC and connect the infected hard drive as slave. It is still possible to do this on infected PC though.
  • Download a data recovery program.
  • Install and scan for recently deleted files. Data Recovery Pro
Note: In many cases it is impossible to restore data files affected by modern ransomware. Thus I recommend using decent cloud backup software as precaution. We recommend checking out Carbonite, BackBlaze, CrashPlan or Mozy Home.
