Coharos Virus - How to remove

Coharos Virus can be infiltrated into your computer out of nowhere. This would result in detrimental damage and you would probably find yourself in a situation that is very unfortunate because all of your personal files would be locked.

As you can already guess, Coharos is classified as ransomware. It seems like the virus originates from notorious Djvu ransomware family, so you can expect it to be pretty dangerous. It enforces a specific encryption algorithm to change the structure of your files and locks them this way. So if you have encountered Coharos virus, your computer is practically unusable right now, because all of your personal files are encrypted.

Cyber criminals behind Coharos infection will offer you a solution – if you agree to pay a ransom, they will provide you with a decryption key that should allow decrypting those locked files. Obviously, we do not suggest to follow those recommendations. There are other, better methods to solve this problem and we are going to present you with possible solutions, so please reading.

Coharos Ransomware Features

Coharos Virus removal

As soon as Coharos enters your computer, it will immediately start scanning your hard drive for files that it could encrypt. Sadly, this infection is capable of encrypting most of the most common file types, such as photos, videos, text documents, and other regular files. During the encryption, the virus adds a unique “.coharos” extension to the end of every encrypted file. That means you can’t open the file anymore. For instance, if you had a file named “myfile.txt”, now it will be renamed to “myfile.txt.coharos”.

Coharos Virus Removal Instructions

Coharos infection can be removed pretty easily – all you have to do is scan your system with Spyhunter. It should immediately detect and remove the infection. Unfortunately, this won’t unlock your locked files.

To do that, you need to perform a system restore. This would turn your device into a previous date when the infection was not yet present. However, this is only possible if you have a valid backup copy of your hard drive. For further instructions, please continue reading the removal guide below this article.

After restoring your system, it is recommended to scan your computer with an anti-malware program, like Spyhunter and remove all malicious files related to Coharos Virus. You can check other tools here.

Step 3. Restore Coharos Virus affected files using Shadow Volume Copies

If you do not use System Restore option on your operating system, there is a chance to use shadow copy snapshots. They store copies of your files that point of time when the system restore snapshot was created. Usually Coharos Virus tries to delete all possible Shadow Volume Copies, so this methods may not work on all computers. However, it may fail to do so. Shadow Volume Copies are only available with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. There are two ways to retrieve your files via Shadow Volume Copy. You can do it using native Windows Previous Versions or via Shadow Explorer. a) Native Windows Previous Versions Right-click on an encrypted file and select PropertiesPrevious versions tab. Now you will see all available copies of that particular file and the time when it was stored in a Shadow Volume Copy. Choose the version of the file you want to retrieve and click Copy if you want to save it to some directory of your own, or Restore if you want to replace existing, encrypted file. If you want to see the content of file first, just click Open.

On the left top corner select the drive where the file you are looking for is a stored. You will see all folders on that drive. To retrieve a whole folder, right-click on it and select “Export”. Then choose where you want it to be stored.

Step 4. Use Data Recovery programs to recover Coharos Virus encrypted files

There are several data recovery programs that might recover encrypted files as well. This does not work in all cases but you can try this:
  • We suggest using another PC and connect the infected hard drive as slave. It is still possible to do this on infected PC though.
  • Download a data recovery program.
  • Install and scan for recently deleted files. Data Recovery Pro
Note: In many cases it is impossible to restore data files affected by modern ransomware. Thus I recommend using decent cloud backup software as precaution. We recommend checking out Carbonite, BackBlaze, CrashPlan or Mozy Home.
