Keygenguru and other crack websites should not be trusted

KeygenGuru virus is just another name of TDSS or Zeroaccess rootkits that cause search redirection. This term originates from KeygenGuru.com – a crack distribution website that had been infected by malware more than once. In some cases malware had infected website pages. In other cases some of cracks submitted were trojans with malicious, redirecting software.
Although we can assume, that Keygenguru is not behind malware infection, this site is not really safe for visit. This is not an exception – many of the crack websites are infected with various trojans. In fact, this is common way for crack makers to make some money. However, KeygenGuru infections were particularly nasty due to Rootkits being distributed.
TDSS and ZeroAccess rootkits, like ones distributed through KeygenGuru, block installing of legitimate programs, show advertisements instead of legitimate websites, redirect searches and download additional trojans to make money from their victim. While they are difficult to remove, we recommend using free utility from Kaspersky – TDSS Killer for removing them. Overall, I recommend not using cracked software and deleting cracks and serial generators from KeygenGuru without using them. This should be done both for respect for software makers and your own PC safety. . No crack website is safe.
