HBO servers hacked: Game of Thrones episodes stolen

One of the hottest shows of the summer is stuck in a bit of a sticky situation when hackers decided to hack HBO servers and obtain some unreleased material from Game of Thrones. While this is a rather positive news for the fans of the series, but to the creators this is the complete opposite. Considering the fact that this season of GOT has just started to take off, the producers certainly had some hopes on raising the tension and anticipation with each episode to come. Since a hack managed to occur, hackers are threatening to release scripts or entire episodes to the Internet.

GOT hacked

The exact content that the hackers got their hands on is not fully recognized, but the amount of it is estimated to be about 1.5 terabytes. Other movie or TV shows makers are certainly feeling for HBO: especially the ones that have already suffered a similar fate. Just a while ago the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean was ruined when the movie was uploaded to a pirating website.

However, this is not the first time that HBO servers have been struck by a comparable thunder: back when fans were waiting for season 5, a bunch of episodes were released as well.

The results of this cyber attack against HBO include not only the episodes of Game of Thrones, but potentially other shows that HBO is currently running. The main menace that hackers are using is the fact that they have the script of next week’s episode of GOT. While many people might still be reading recaps of the third episode of the season seven called “The Queens Revenge”, it is unknown whether hackers will implement their tactics and strike by releasing the next one. From the straightforward implications of the statements that crooks have managed to make, they are certainly planning to ruin the next Sunday’s episode with some pre-watch.

It is natural to assume that these sort of inconveniences should work as a wake up call for many producers, but the data is clearly not being stored the way it should. Soon after hackers’ successful intrusion, many reporters received such a message:

“Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling.”

Currently, no episodes have been leaked, but fans are definitely going to keep an eye on the Torrent websites in case next week’s episode is released.
