Thanks!
I zapped the virus manually!
Now I cant use .exe file extensions. So my only option iz to leave my cpu plugged in till I can get a external drive. Backup all my stuff and reformat my drive. Thx guys,

Try writing some dummy proof instructions for the average user next time.

It seems to be user specific on one of my client computers, and I've found some of the files in the users local settings, so yes, if you copy their my documents folder you will also copy the virus.

Oriental : Do a full scan. If it does not help, contact PC tools support, they are probably very interested at this issue and will update Spyware Doctor database. Alternative route is to try some other removers.

YEA this was ANNOYING and I could not figure out how to prevent it from getting my money, so I paid it, closed my card and once I got control of my computer again, i uninstalled it and installed Microsoft security Essentials cause whatever I had on my pc didn't work. There is limiited information on this company, you also can't trace them to get your money back. I did not have control of my computer at all and could not find my upgrade CD, so I just went ahead and paid it, and eventuallly got it removed. I did get my money back from my bank, not the company. I paid with my Visa card so hopefully VISA will look inot this. I hope they can stop these people and shut them down for good.

I just picked up this nasty virus today while on my own Facebook page. It is definitely a pain.. It did mess with my IE, but I was able to use my Firefox fine with it. I tried to do a system restore, was my initial idea, but this virus wasn't allowing me to access the system restore files.. a pop-up would appear stating that it could not execute the file because it was infected. Highly annoying. I decided to browse the internet and try to find a solution, hopefully someone has had this problem before, which is how I found this site. I, also, was getting pop-ups from IE that was trying to take me to pornography sites. After my Avast! did not pick up the virus during a quick scan (thorough takes a lot longer, more than I'd like to keep the virus on my system) I decided to restart my computer and go into Windows Recovery (F11). I restored my computer to my last Windows update which was yesterday, and as of right now I have no problems. It seems that the virus has been wiped.
I suggest doing a system restore before doing anything else to see if it will take care of your problem. If you cannot access it the usual way (through system tools), then just restart your computer and go into the Windows Recovery to restart it from there. Hope this helps!

To get access into exe. or the internet, open up the task manager and cancel the ave.exe file. It'll probably have no description or just ave.exe. When you delete it, you get access, but it may pop up again so you;ll have to cancel it again.

If it helps anyone, the newest version installs as gxxistav. The locations are all roughly the same, just be on the lookout for this new iteration of the .exe and reg entries.

Our computer got hit with Security Tool this weekend. I used Windows Defender's Software Explorer and found the file for it; under "currently running programs," I hit "end process," and under "start up programs," I hit "disable." I deleted the short cut and emptied the recycle bin. I don't know much about computers, and this is the first time we caught a virus, but it seems like what I did is similar to the method described here to get rid of Security Tool. I cannot find the file for the virus now using either the safe mode start or the Task Manager method described here and apparently have no remaining effects from the virus. I have scanned my computer with my existing anti-virus software and new ones I just downloaded, including Spyware Doctor, and no scan has found Security Tool. Even though it seems like I got rid of the virus, I still have some reservations and am reluctant to doing anything like banking or billpay online. I would appreciate any input as to whether the method I used to get rid of the virus is a good one or should I be concerned that it is still lurking about on my computer. Also, I have the regkey for the file for Security Tool but don't know how to go about checking my computer's registry for it. Again, any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I used full scan, and so great that it worked, the vista antispyware was gone. But can I ask a question that not really relevant to this topic? Spyware Doctor has killed many spywares in my lap, except Trojan-Downloaders.Suurch. It comes up again and again everytime I scan my lap. WHat can I do?

Oriental : Update Spyware Doctor, do a full scan. If you still see popups, contact PC Tools support - they will help out. It is likely that there are a new strain of parasite.

Jacko : Mcafee is antivirus and personally I dislike it. From your list it is the only antivirus product, so I would keep it or change it to AVAST or Avira. They are better and free. From paid ones I like ESETs Nod32 ( I use it myself). My PC runs much faster (no mini-freezes) once I removed Mcafee and installed Eset's Smart security as well. However, your experience might differ, depends on OS and versions.
From antimalwares I would use either Spybot or superantispyware for real time protection. Neither of them is too good. So I would feel much safer if I had paid Malwarebytes or Spyware Doctor. Both react faster to latest threats in my opinion.

Should note I tried the manual removal method, could not restore. And Malwarebytes I could not update, lan locked out even in safe mode. Prehaps it was the proxy I removed manually latter.

Going to bed, hopefully the scan won't find anything else now, and my wifes laptop will be clean. Seemed fine though when I restarted in normal mode.

Thanks Again.
