What password do you use for your online bank account?
If you are an active Internet user, you have probably experienced and reconciled the fact that you need to memorize usernames and passwords in order to subscribe to and get access to some of important websites. Many people have just couple combinations of passwords and usernames in order to make it easier to be remembered.
A recent research by online security company Truster showed that most of online banking users have the same password to access their bank account as to login to other Internet websites.
Some of the financial institutions gives the usernames themselves and the user cannot change it to the one he likes, but many of the bank companies allows their costumers to use their own usernames. However, the research revealed that when a bank company allows choosing the username by themselves, 65 per cent still re-use these details for other websites. Almost half of the respondents that have been questioned by Truster said that they use the same username and password for at least one other password requiring website. 73 per cent of users share the password which they use for Internet bank account with at least one other website. Perhaps not many people consider the possibility that if cyber criminals find out the password of your email or facebook, they can get an easy access to your bank account details.
Even though the Internet is overflowed with the information how to make a good password, people practically don’t use that information. Truster recommends the users to memorize at least three combinations of username and password and use the same combination for your financial matters issued websites in order to protect the credentials from being revealed by cyber criminals. It also demands the fianacial companies to educate their customers explaining the value of the risk.
Make sure to do everything to keep your credentials safe. Who else would take care of your security if not yourself?
