Xtendmedia virus or ad.xtendmedia.com is an adware that displays pop-up and in-text advertisements. It is also known to be associated with browser redirects. Usually one gets infected with it unintentionally after downloading and installing freeware or shareware. The application comes bundled with other programs and is added to the computer by default. The only way to avoid having it in the first place is by selecting a custom installation option and removing all the tick boxes for unwanted/unknown applications.

XtendMedia belongs to Matomi group – a media company that allows making money from applications and games. Some of the programs using XtendMedia advertisements are legitimate, however, other ones are installed without a user’s consent. In some cases they might be installed with a help of Trojan infection too. Thus no wonder that some people call these advertisements a virus.
