What is WistaAntivirus?

WistaAntivirus is a rogue anti-spyware program - a fake spyware remover and a clone of WinDefender 2008. This parasite uses trojans, such as Zlob and Vundo, to enter the system. To avoid infection, try not to download any codecs from warez/porn websites. WistaAntivirus relies on misleading advertising to convince the user he is infected and therefore in need of an anti-spyware program to dispose of the threat.

Once insided and active, WistaAntivirus will flood the user with popups and fake system notifications, supposedly to inform him of an infection or multiple infections on the system. In reality, there may not necessarilly not be an infection and either way, WistaAntivirus doesn't have the ability to inform you of this. The point of this disinformation is to convince the user he is infected so that hopefully he would buy the parasite's "licensed version".

Wista-Antivirus.com, the home of this scam is nothing out of the ordinary: there is no useful content and neither is there any contact information. The domain was created only 2 weeks ago, which is anything but security companies' usual practice.

WistaAntivirus is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download or buy it and block it's homepage using your HOSTS file.

WistaAntivirus is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only WistaAntivirus can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads WistaAntivirus trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, WistaAntivirus offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, WistaAntivirus not only does not fix the errors, but it takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as WistaAntivirus, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install WistaAntivirus, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as WistaAntivirus, is nearly impossible to remove manually.
